Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is in the books, and it was an exciting stretch of games from start to finish. For the most part, many teams were still getting back in the swing of things, which is reflected in some of the disappointing performances at the quarterback position. There were a handful of players who put together stellar performances, and that’s reflected in our metrics. PFSN has you covered with your QB rankings for the 2025 season, as our QBi metric puts a numerical value on how each back performs every week.
Keep in mind that these rankings are purely based on the opening week, not for the entire season. Some consensus top quarterbacks may rank lower than usual, while a few surprise names appear in the top ten. With Week 1 in the rearview mirror, let’s rank the top 32 quarterbacks in the NFL after one week of play.
32) Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 41.0 (F)
It was a season opener to forget for Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans, putting up just 12 points in their Week 1 loss to the Broncos on Sunday. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft finished at or near the bottom in just about every passing category to open up the year.
Ward had the fewest passing yards of any starter with just 112; his completion percentage was just 42.9%, and he didn’t throw any touchdown passes. His EPA per dropback of -0.41 was the third-lowest of any QB in Week 1.
31) Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 49.2 (F)
The Colts blew out the Miami Dolphins for several reasons. Among the key factors was the poor play of Tua Tagovailoa, who threw for only 114 passing yards on Sunday. He scored a touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions.
With a QBR of just 2.7, Tagovailoa had the lowest score among all quarterbacks in the opening week of action. His 51.7 passer rating was the second-lowest in the league in Week 1, further hurting his QBi score in PFSN’s database.
30) Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 51.0 (F)
After a stellar 2024 season in Minnesota, Sam Darnold’s debut with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday was anything but. He didn’t turn the ball over, but he didn’t score any touchdowns and ended the afternoon with just 150 passing yards.
Though Darnold had a respectable 69.6% completion percentage, he wasn’t able to create much offensive firepower with those completed passes. He was most notably very inefficient in the clutch, converting on a combined 14.3% of third-down and fourth-down opportunities.
29) Russell Wilson, New York Giants
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 55.5 (F)
In his first game with the New York Giants, Russell Wilson struggled to find his rhythm. He contributed 44 rushing yards on eight carries, but his passing performance was less than spectacular. His 45.9% completion rate was the second-lowest among QBs in Week 1.

— awthentik (@awthentik) September 7, 2025
Wilson was generally inaccurate, and he didn’t have any touchdowns or many splash plays to fall back on. New York’s loss to the Commanders fell heavily on the shoulders of a disappointing passing attack and an inability to move the ball down the field.
28) J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 59.4 (F)
Perhaps controversially, J.J. McCarthy was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 1. Granted, he deserves a lot of credit for scoring three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, propelling the Minnesota Vikings to a tremendous comeback win over Chicago.
Generally speaking, McCarthy wasn’t very consistent through the air on Monday night, though. With an EPA per dropback of -0.53, he had the lowest total of any quarterback in the league to start the year. A pick-six he threw in the third quarter likely played a role in that low marking.
27) Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 60.2 (D-)
Bryce Young put together some encouraging flashes late in the 2024 season, providing plenty of optimism for the Carolina Panthers as he heads into Year 3. With a league-worst 49.0 passer rating, though, he reverted to old habits to kick off the 2025 season.
In the Panthers’ 26-10 loss to the Jaguars, Young threw two interceptions to just one touchdown. He completed just 51.4% of his passing attempts on Sunday, throwing for just 154 passing yards in the process.
26) Bo Nix, Denver Broncos
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 64.5 (D)
The Denver Broncos ended up winning over the Titans in Week 1, but it wasn’t the prettiest performance from their offense. Entering Year 2 of his NFL career, Bo Nix kicked off the season on a disappointing note.
Most notably, Nix threw two interceptions with a passer rating of 60.0. He faltered under pressure, finishing with the second-lowest grade in the league, a -1.24 EPA per dropback when pressured by Tennessee’s defensive line.
25) Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 65.0 (D)
After leading the NFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns in 2024, Joe Burrow got off to a slow start in 2025. With 113 passing yards, he had the second-lowest total behind only Ward of all starting quarterbacks in Week 1.
The Cincinnati Bengals came away with the win on Sunday, but Burrow’s lack of explosive throws hurts his QBi grade. He did end up with a touchdown against the Browns, but his 4.1 net yards per attempt tied for the second-lowest average of any starting quarterback in the league.
24) C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 65.6 (D)
C.J. Stroud opened up the 2025 NFL season on a pretty unremarkable note, throwing an interception with no touchdowns in the Houston Texans’ loss to the Rams on Sunday. His 74.3 passer rating ranked 26th among the 32 starting quarterbacks.
Los Angeles’ defense limited Stroud pretty well in Week 1. He converted on just 28.6% of his third-down attempts, and just four starting quarterbacks had their longest completion go for fewer yards.
23) Drake Maye, New England Patriots
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 66.6 (D)
From a volume perspective, Drake Maye put together a solid outing on Sunday in the New England Patriots’ matchup against the Raiders. His 287 passing yards rank sixth in the NFL coming out of the first week of action.
Though Maye’s yardage total was impressive, he wasn’t very consistent. He threw a touchdown but also gave up an interception, he got sacked four times, and his third-down conversion rate was just 27.3%.
22) Spencer Rattler, New Orleans Saints
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 66.9 (D)
All things considered, Spencer Rattler performed better than many expected going into the New Orleans Saints’ opening week matchup with the Cardinals. The Saints didn’t end up winning the game, but Rattler threw for 214 yards and kept his team in the game.
That’s not to say Rattler was great, though. He converted on just 25% of his third-down opportunities, and his 58.7% completion percentage was the fifth-worst in the NFL in Week 1.
21) Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 68.0 (D+)
The first game of the post-Ben Johnson era in Detroit Lions football wasn’t awe-inspiring. They ended up losing to Green Bay in their season opener, and Jared Goff took a step back from his high caliber of play from his last few seasons.
Though Goff finished second in the NFL with a 79.5% completion percentage, he got sacked four times and threw an interception on Sunday. He graded in the bottom ten in the league with 5.1 net yards per attempt.
20) Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 68.4 (D+)
It was a fantastic start to Caleb Williams’ season debut for 2025, as he completed his first ten passes and finished the first half with a career-high 81.3% completion rate. What would follow wasn’t quite as strong.
Williams finished the second half, completing just eight of his 19 passing attempts, and the Chicago Bears ultimately blew their lead at home in disappointing fashion. The No. 1 pick from the 2024 NFL Draft showed some flashes early, but his poor play late played a role in their collapse.
19) Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 72.7 (C-)
It was a tale of two halves for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys’ offense in their Week 1 matchup against the Eagles. Though they put up 20 points in the first half, they didn’t score a single touchdown in the final two quarters, following a weather delay.
Prescott didn’t score any of those touchdowns, but he did help Dallas move the ball down the field on those early drives. His tape showcased some severe flashes of great play, but the consistency just wasn’t there down the stretch, even if some of his targets struggled with drops.
18) Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 74.4 (C)
After winning Offensive Rookie of the Year last season, Jayden Daniels didn’t exactly light the world on fire in the Washington Commanders’ Week 1 matchup against the Giants. That’s not to say he performed poorly, though: he threw for 233 yards and ran for 68 more.
Inconsistency under pressure and on third downs slightly hurt Daniels’ QBi rating, but he still performed well with a 0.05 EPA per dropback, which puts him in the positive range. His contributions on the ground helped extend some drives for the Commanders, too.
17) Joe Flacco, Cleveland Browns
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 74.6 (C)
The Cleveland Browns relied heavily on Joe Flacco in his season debut, and the seasoned veteran was solid with a workload of 45 passes. Of the starting quarterbacks who played in Week 1, only three quarterbacks finished with higher passing totals.
Flacco threw two interceptions, which significantly hurt his QBi score. That said, he completed 68.9% of his passes and tied for second in the NFL with a 61.5% third-down conversion rate.
16) Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
2025 PFSN RBi Grade: 77.3 (C+)
The Jacksonville Jaguars’ game against Carolina wasn’t particularly close, with the Jaguars winning by 16 points. A lot of that offensive explosion came through the ground game, but Trevor Lawrence did enough to keep the momentum going.
Lawrence was just one of nine quarterbacks with a positive EPA per play on Week 1 dropbacks where he got pressured. He threw an interception, but also added a touchdown to the mix.
15) Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 78.1 (C+)
His yardage totals won’t jump off the screen when you open the box score, but Kyler Murray had a solid game on Sunday and helped the Arizona Cardinals come away with the victory over the Saints in Week 1.
With a substantial 72.4% completion percentage, Murray was able to deliver throws accurately and consistently against New Orleans. He converted on more than half of his third-down attempts, and he added 38 rushing yards on the ground, too.
14) Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 81.3 (B-)
At a completion percentage of just 61.5%, Patrick Mahomes’ outing in the Kansas City Chiefs’ season debut against the Chargers on Friday was better on tape than it was in the stat sheet. Luckily for him, the QBi ranking plays in his favor a little bit this week.
Mahomes threw for 258 yards and a touchdown, adding 57 yards and a touchdown on the ground in the Chiefs’ matchup in Brazil. Not surprisingly, he also fared well under pressure with an EPA per play against pressures of 0.26. That total places him fourth in the NFL coming out of the opening string of games.
13) Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 82.4 (B-)
Matthew Stafford ended with a 1.68 EPA per play near the end of the first half, which was the highest total of any quarterback in that timeframe. He also converted on more than half of his third-down attempts and placed ninth with a 0.51 EPA per play in a clean pocket.
Though he might have struggled a little bit in a collapsing pocket, Stafford was competent when he was given some protection to work with. His 72.4% completion percentage surely doesn’t hurt his QBi metrics, either.
12) Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 83.6 (B)
Far and away the best quarterback under pressure in Week 1, Baker Mayfield had an EPA per play of 0.84 when pressured in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ narrow win over the Falcons. He also ranked ninth in total EPA per dropback.
Mayfield only completed 53.1% of his passing attempts, which keeps him outside of the top ten in these rankings. However, he deserves plenty of credit for throwing three touchdowns with no interceptions while maintaining his composure in the clutch.
11) Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 85.7 (B)
He may be 41 years old, but Aaron Rodgers managed to turn back the clock in his debut for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. He threw for 244 yards with four touchdowns, no interceptions, and a completion percentage of 73.3%.

The only two reasons Rodgers finishes outside of the top ten are his third-down inconsistency and struggles under pressure. Even with those in mind, he put together a strong outing that propelled the Steelers to victory over the Jets.
10) Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta Falcons
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 86.0 (B)
The Atlanta Falcons may have lost in their Week 1 matchup to the Buccaneers, but they have one thing to feel very good about: Michael Penix Jr. looked the part in his first season opener as an NFL starter.
Penix threw for 298 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. He had a lower completion percentage at 64.0%, but it’s worth noting that he stepped up in the clutch. With an EPA per dropback of 0.68 in time, which is classified as a “close game”, his total ranked fifth in the opening weekend.
9) Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 86.0 (B)
Geno Smith didn’t seem to miss a beat in his transition from the Seahawks to the Las Vegas Raiders. Granted, it surely helped that he’s worked under Raiders head coach Pete Carroll before in Seattle, but the veteran QB looked poised and decisive in their win over the Patriots.
At 362 passing yards, Smith ranks second in the NFL in that category coming out of the first weekend of games. He averaged 10.6 yards per completion, which also ranks second in the league. He’s also the second-highest player on this list to have thrown an interception in Week 1.
8) Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 87.8 (B+)
Through the air, Jalen Hurts might not have the high volume that some may have wanted. But there’s no denying the results he put together in the Philadelphia Eagles’ victory over Dallas on Thursday night.
Hurts only had 152 passing yards, but he led the league with an 82.6% completion percentage. His 61.5% third-down conversion rate was second in the NFL, too. He was also effective with his legs; he ran for 62 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.
7) Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 90.1 (A-)
There were ups and downs in Brock Purdy’s play on Sunday. The lows were low, as he threw two interceptions against the Seahawks and suffered toe and shoulder injuries. But the highs were high, as he finished with two touchdowns, 277 passing yards, a 74.3% completion rate, and a 92.2 passer rating.
Strong play late in the San Francisco 49ers’ tight matchup placed Purdy in sixth with a 0.65 EPA per dropback in a close game setting. He converted over half of his third downs, and he was one of nine quarterbacks to finish with a positive EPA under pressure.
6) Daniel Jones, Indianapolis Colts
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 93.2 (A)
Week 1 was just about as hot of a start as Daniel Jones could get for his time with the Indianapolis Colts. Fresh off of winning the starting quarterback job over Anthony Richardson, Jones ended the game with three total touchdowns, 272 passing yards, and a 75.9% completion percentage.
Not only did Jones excel through the air, but his 1.09 EPA per run was the fourth-highest among all QBs in the opening week. He was able to move the ball down the field efficiently and put the Colts in a strong position to win.
5) Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 94.8 (A)
The analytics are very kind to Jordan Love, which he admittedly deserves after leading the Green Bay Packers to a decisive win over the Lions on Sunday. It makes sense, considering he threw for two touchdowns and no interceptions with a 128.6 passer rating.
Specifically, Love is fourth with a 0.38 EPA per dropback. He’s fifth among quarterbacks in EPA per rush, and he heads out of Week 1 leading the NFL with a combined 71.40% conversion rate on third and fourth downs. Not a bad way for Love to kick off the season.
4) Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 95.4 (A)
As stellar as Lamar Jackson was in the Baltimore Ravens’ intense showdown with the Bills, it wasn’t enough for his team to pick up the win. Still, the two-time MVP deserves all the credit in the world for his performance on Sunday, which saw him put up an NFL-best 144.4 passer rating coming out of Week 1.

— Jake Franklin Football (@JakeFranklinFB) September 8, 2025
Jackson threw for 209 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 73.7% completion percentage. His average of 11.0 yards per completion led the league, and he also had 70 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries. His well-rounded performance lands him safely among the top QBi grades for the opening stretch of games.
3) Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 95.8 (A)
The expectation under Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman is a run-heavy offense, when compared to other play callers around the league. Someone forgot to tell him that, as Justin Herbert threw for 318 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in their Friday win over the Chiefs.
At a 73.5% completion rate, Herbert was not only accurate, but he was able to make big plays in Brazil. His 0.75 EPA per play in a close game ranked fourth among all quarterbacks in Week 1, and his 0.62 EPA average in a clean pocket also placed fourth in the NFL.
2) Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 96.5 (A)
If you can pull off a miraculous comeback like the Buffalo Bills did against the Ravens on Sunday, the odds are strong that you benefited from great quarterback play. Not only did Josh Allen perform well early in the game, but he kicked it up to another level in the clutch to help his team secure the win.
Having scored four total touchdowns with no interceptions, Allen was a menace, throwing and running the ball. Through the air, he had the league’s most passing yards in Week 1 with 394, adding a 71.7% completion rate and a 0.95 EPA per close game dropback that ranked second only to Mahomes last week.
1) Justin Fields, New York Jets
2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 97.3 (A+)
PFSN’s first A+ grade in the QBi metric for 2025 goes to Justin Fields. He didn’t end up leading the New York Jets to victory over the Steelers, but he was a big reason they were as competitive as they were in the game in the first place.
Fields threw for 218 yards and completed 72.7% of his passes on Sunday. He threw for one touchdown and ran for two, adding 48 rushing yards on 12 carries in the process. He didn’t throw a single interception and was consistent in his touchdown runs, showing some tremendous early returns in his first season with the Jets.
