When it comes to the history of the NFL, there have been many legendary quarterbacks. It is the most important position on the field, and no one has played it better than Tom Brady.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion knows what it takes to win and which traits are valuable in a great quarterback. That is why it is interesting to see which attributes Brady selected for the “Ultimate quarterback.”
Tom Brady Builds the Ultimate Quarterback
It is always an interesting exercise to see which players would fit into the perfect quarterback.
Tom Brady posted a video on his YouTube channel in which he constructed his version of the ultimate quarterback, drawing on the strengths of several players. Here is what he came up with.
When it comes to quarterbacks with speed, few compare to Lamar Jackson. Brady said, “This one is very easy, Lamar Jackson…what he does in terms of his elusiveness in the open field, I’ve seen him make moves that I’ve never seen anyone make.”
Jackson is widely regarded as the best rushing quarterback in NFL history. His ability to create problems for opposing defenses with his legs is a major reason he is a two-time MVP. His impact has been substantial, and in only seven games this season, he ranks 10th in PFSN’s QB Impact Score with an 80.4.
Another player Brady used to build his perfect QB is Aaron Rodgers, one of the top quarterbacks of all time. Brady praised Rodgers’ throwing power, saying, “(Rodgers) could get the ball from his fingertips into the chest of his receiver as fast as anybody I have ever seen.”
Brady also emphasized the importance of field vision, noting that Patrick Mahomes excels in that area. “His field vision and his vision of 53 1/3 wide and all the way to the depth and the ability to throw to all the different locations and his spatial awareness on the field … he just has the most poise in the pocket,” Brady said.
Brady also highlighted several other quarterbacks in constructing his ultimate QB. Peyton Manning was chosen for his pre-snap skills, particularly his ability to identify coverage. Andrew Luck was noted for his pocket presence, while Brett Favre was selected for his toughness. Drew Brees was recognized for his accuracy, and Steve Young for his agility. Each of these quarterbacks was considered among the league’s best at various points in their careers, making Brady’s selections understandable.

The value of a list like this lies in its subjectivity. If you asked 10 different quarterbacks to build the perfect QB, you would likely receive 10 different answers. That variety is what makes the NFL — and the quarterback position — so distinctive.
