Red-Hot Saints Win Fourth Straight Behind Tyler Shough, Chase Young, Chris Olave

As in many games this season, the opponent started strong and the Saints looked sluggish, but they overcame the deficit to win 34-26.

If the New Orleans Saints wanted momentum going into next season, this is how you do it. For the fourth game in a row, the Saints have gotten a victory, and this time around, it was against the Tennessee Titans.

As with many of their games this season, their opponent started strong, and the Saints looked stagnant, but they overcame the deficit to win 34-26. Here are the three standouts from today’s game.

Tyler Shough

There is a real chance that rookie QB Tyler Shough wins Rookie of the Year. Momentum was already building in recent weeks around the potential of this happening, but in a duel with fellow rookie Cam Ward, he looked excellent. Shough finished with 333 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an 81.4% completion percentage.

These are elite numbers, and the victory capped off a strong performance. Shough’s most impressive play was his final touchdown pass of the game, a perfect throw to WR Kevin Austin Jr.

Chase Young

Speaking of excellent plays, EDGE Chase Young may have had one of the best of the year. Down 13-3 late in the second quarter, it started to look bad for the Saints. The Titans had the ball near midfield, and with how the defense was performing so far, it could have become much worse.

Instead, EDGE Carl Granderson generated pressure on Ward, which helped Young get to the rookie and take the ball right out of his hands. Young then took the ball into the end zone, pulling the Saints back into the game.

Chris Olave

Coming into the game, WR Chris Olave was dealing with a back injury, and his availability for today was up in the air. The Saints could not afford that, as their wide receiver room was already depleted, but the good news was that Olave pushed through and played.

With Olave serving as the primary option for Shough and the rookie QB delivering such a strong performance, it was fitting that the star receiver also had a big day. Olave finished with 119 yards, one touchdown, and eight receptions. Per PFSN’s WR Impact Metric, that puts Olave at 100 receptions on the season.
