As of this writing, the trade deadline is less than nine hours away. The Denver Broncos, meanwhile, may be waiting to pounce. Riding a six-game win streak, the 7-2 Broncos are ahead of schedule, so Denver may try to expedite their rebuild more with the acquisition of a pass catcher.
Sean Payton May Be Bringing Fireworks to Thanksgiving
CBS Sports’ Jonathon Jones published an in-depth feature sharing insights on 23 NFL teams — with the Broncos among those highlighted.
“Denver is interesting because the league believes the Broncos covet another pass catcher, but they keep winning with the group they have. Six straight wins with the group they have may make them say ‘we all we got, we all we need.’ But if there is one team that could provide us with the Fourth of July on the Fourth of November, it would be the Broncos. Head coach Sean Payton has been known to throw around draft picks,” Jones wrote.
That said, the Broncos have less than $5 million in cap space, so it would seemingly take at least two acquisitions to fit a fireworks-type pass catcher under the cap. Restructuring current players is also in play.
Reading the tea leaves, though, Jones lists the Miami Dolphins as one of his 23 teams with tidbits. He wrote that a Jaylen Waddle, No. 10 in PFSN’s WR Impact Score, trade would be rich. Elsewhere, Jones has the Saints listed, with the headline stating that an impact WR could be on the move. Chris Olave, who is No.1 on the team in receiving, could be Payton’s fireworks acquisition as well. The former is No. 40 in PFSN’s WR Impact Score.
Then there’s the New York Giants, who may trade Jalin Hyatt. As far as competition, Jones listed the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers as teams that also need a receiver. With less than nine hours before the deadline, it looks like a Broncos deal is likely. Whether it includes fireworks just depends on who Denver acquires.
