Atlanta Falcons Coaching Rumors: Latest Updates on Team’s Search for a New HC

Falcons begin an aggressive 2026 coaching search, interviewing top coordinators and ex-Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski for Raheem Morris’ replacement.

The offseason has begun for the Atlanta Falcons, and some major changes are underway. They fired former head coach Raheem Morris after missing the playoffs, despite a four-game winning streak to close out the year.

They also hired former quarterback Matt Ryan as the president of football, and the head coaching search continues. According to Tori McElhaney, Terrin Waack, and Will McFadden of the official team site, the Falcons conducted interviews with numerous coaches. Here are some of the candidates who have interviewed with the Falcons.

Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Interviews

The Falcons interviewed Anthony Weaver, who has been the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins since the 2024 season. The Dolphins started the year off poorly as one of the worst teams in the league, but they put together a comeback toward the end, ultimately missing the playoffs. A bright spot was their defense, as they ranked 22nd in Total Defense according to Fox Sports.

They also interviewed Klint Kubiak, who is the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks have done a fantastic job both offensively and defensively this season. Kubiak was able to assemble one of the best offenses in the entire NFL and contribute to quarterback Sam Darnold’s career resurgence. They’re currently on a playoff run, and it makes sense why the Falcons would pursue Kubiak as a head coach, given the success he’s had in Seattle thus far.

Atlanta interviewed another Seattle Seahawks coordinator, but it was the defensive coordinator, Aden Durde, who has been in that role since 2024. The Legion of Boom from back then is no longer there, but Seattle is making a return with one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Seahawks concluded the regular season with a 14-3 record and the number one seed in the NFC. A significant part of that has been their season, during which they’ve been wreaking havoc on opposing offenses. The Falcons have talent on defense and a coach like Durde could maximize their potential.

Former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has been a candidate for the Falcons’ head coaching position after being let go following this season. Stefanski is hailed as an offensive-minded coach, and with that mentality, the Falcons can become even better offensively in 2026. Stefanski is a former 2x NFL Coach of the Year, and a fresh start with a team as talented as Atlanta could work wonders for both sides. Stefanski could help with the development of quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as he returns from injury.
