‘Going Through Garbage’ — NFL Insider Reveals the Lengths Tabloids Go to Dig Up Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini Bombshells

An NFL insider reveals the extreme tactics tabloids use to dig up dirt in the Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini scandal, as the media hunts for new details.

The controversy surrounding New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and NFL reporter Dianna Russini continues to dominate headlines and attract scrutiny, with little sign of slowing down. Despite the constant noise, opinions remain divided on whether this situation will impact Vrabel’s future in New England.

Some believe the focus will eventually shift back to football, while others believe there are still revelations coming that could impact his job security. NFL insider John McClain believes Vrabel’s gig is safe, but opened up about the lengths that some outlets will go in order to dig up new details.

NFL Insider Reveals Extreme Tabloid Tactics Fueling Mike Vrabel–Dianna Russini Scandal

During a recent appearance on “OutKick Hot Mic,” McClain addressed speculation about whether Vrabel’s role with the Patriots could be in danger. While public discourse has intensified, he made it clear that he does not see ownership making a change.

“His future is not in jeopardy,” said McClain. “What’s gonna happen? Is Robert Kraft gonna fire him for morals? I don’t think so. The fans love him. The media loves him… He did a great coaching job last season. There’s a lot of guys who have survived and thrived after extramarital affairs. It’s going to affect her far more than it’ll affect him.”

Beyond the question of job security, McClain also shed light on the relentless nature of media coverage surrounding the story. He pointed to the incentives driving continued reporting, suggesting that the demand for new details is pushing coverage into more aggressive territory.

“Anyway, I think as long as they can snip out information — and some people might be going through garbage like the National Enquirer used to do to try to find things about somebody,” McClain added. “I don’t feel sorry for them. They created this problem. But I think as long as it keeps getting attention and clicks on websites, people will still look for every morsel of information.”

To McClain’s point, with a scandal that becomes mainstream news like this, the media goes to great lengths to dig up new details. If there are skeletons in Vrabel or Russini’s closet, tabloids and gossip sites will do whatever they can to expose that information.

McClain then predicted that Vrabel will face some crazy taunts whenever the Patriots play on the road this season.

“I would love to come out of the tunnel right behind Mike Vrabel just to listen to what people were screaming at him because he’s going to have to put up with so much on the road,” he said.

These remarks underline how the story has moved beyond standard sports coverage into a broader media spectacle, fueled by constant demand for updates and media outlets scratching for more details.

The situation traces back to photos published by Page Six, which showed Vrabel and Russini together at a resort in Arizona. Initially, both parties downplayed the nature of their relationship, but subsequent images and reports intensified scrutiny. Later on, fresh images of them allegedly kissing in a bar in New York in 2020 were released by the New York Post.

TMZ then shared their own images of Vrabel and Russini at a casino, while also following Vrabel and his wife Jen. After the scandal broke, Russini resigned from The Athletic and deleted her X account. In her resignation letter, she wrote: “I do so not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career.”

Meanwhile, Vrabel stepped away from the team during Day 3 of the NFL Draft to seek counseling and acknowledged that his “previous actions don’t meet the standards” he expects of himself.

The trajectory of this saga will likely depend on whether new information continues to emerge. As long as public interest remains high and new details surface, this story appears far from reaching its conclusion.
