Teams with Their Starters Lined Up to Play

Chicago Bears

After a spectacular turnaround in the first year of head coach Ben Johnson, there are high expectations for what the Chicago Bears can achieve this season. But for the fan base, the first game of the preseason might not give them a complete idea of what to expect from the roster.

According to Sports Illustrated, the offensive genius confirmed that “a number” of starters, including their quarterback and this year’s Madden cover athlete, Caleb Williams, wouldn’t take the field on Saturday.

Cleveland Browns

With a new head coach and an unsure quarterback situation, the Cleveland Browns are coming into the preseason with a ton of question marks surrounding them. As a result, Todd Monken is going to use these games to make a lot of his major decisions.

According to Yahoo Sports, Monken outright confirmed that the team would be playing its starters for the first series, at the very least. However, the biggest uncertainty remains between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.

Those questions might be answered on Saturday, as both players will get to sit under center for an entire half each, with Watson getting the starting nod for Week 1, at least.

Buffalo Bills

A disastrous end to their season against the Denver Broncos led the Buffalo Bills to fire longtime head coach Sean McDermott. In his stead, Joe Brady has taken over the role, and he wants to get a feel for his starters in the preseason.

According to Roundtable, Brady confirmed that “everybody that’s healthy is going to be playing out there on Saturday.” However, he confessed that the exact duration for the starters wasn’t a guarantee yet.

Instead, he would take that call depending on the flow and feel of the game, rather than having a set direction or number of plays that he wanted for his starters.

Carolina Panthers

Seemingly coming out of nowhere, the Carolina Panthers made it back to the playoffs last season. But there remain unanswered questions about quarterback Bryce Young, who might be fighting for his next contract over the course of the season.

Head coach Dave Canales confirmed that the starters would get a run this time around, after missing the Hall of Fame against the Arizona Cardinals, where Haynes King shone with a last-second touchdown to ensure their victory.

Including Young, Canales has about 10–20 snaps in mind for his starting lineup before he makes the lineup changes against the Bills.

New York Giants

The New York Giants will play their first game under new head coach John Harbaugh against the Minnesota Vikings.

According to Giants’ reporter Jordan Raanan, there is “expectation is that Jaxson Dart and most of the Giants starters” will play against the Vikings. However, they are not expected to play for long.

Minnesota Vikings

After announcing Kyler Murray as their QB1 for the upcoming season last week, the Vikings are going to get their first taste pretty quickly.

According to Sports Illustrated, the expectation is that the team will play many of its starters against the Giants, though their exact playing time has not yet been confirmed. Among those starters, the Vikings fan base will be keeping a keen eye on Murray, who suits up for Minnesota for the first time officially.
