2025 NFL QB Rankings: Sam Darnold Jumps Into Top 5, Daniel Jones’ Lead at No. 1 Shrinks Significantly

Week 9 of the 2025 NFL season has wrapped up. Joe Flacco turned the clock back to throw for 470 yards, Daniel Jones saw his phenomenal season slow down, and Sam Darnold torched the Washington Commanders on primetime television. Naturally, there was plenty of movement at the quarterback position.

PFSN has you covered with your QB rankings for the 2025 season, as our QBi metric puts a numerical value on how each one performs every week. Note that these rankings only include the eight games played this year, not any previous games from other seasons, or factoring into each player’s reputation. With Week 9 in the rearview mirror, let’s rank the top 38 quarterbacks in the NFL after another week of play.

    38) Jake Browning, Cincinnati Bengals

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 49.2 (F)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 37

With the Cincinnati Bengals’ acquisition of Joe Flacco heading into Week 6, Jake Browning has since transitioned back into a backup role. Judging by how poorly he performed in relief of Joe Burrow, that’s probably for the best.

    37) Dillon Gabriel, Cleveland Browns

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 52.3 (F)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 35

The Cleveland Browns had their bye week in Week 9, so Dillon Gabriel’s QBi grade remains the same. He slips a few spots due to the inclusion of J.J. McCarthy back into the rankings and Cam Ward putting together a solid game.

    36) J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 52.7 (F)

    Last Week’s Ranking: N/R

After weeks of inactivity due to injury, McCarthy made his return to the field on Sunday, and the result was a Minnesota Vikings victory. He tallied three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) and an interception in the win over the Lions, throwing for 143 yards with an 82.6 passer rating.

There’s too small a sample size to get caught up in the details with McCarthy’s season thus far. But one thing of note: between his three starts, he has scored three touchdowns in two of them, but he has yet to throw for more than 160 yards in a single game.

    35) Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 52.7 (F)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 36

Cam Ward headed into Week 9 having surpassed 220 passing yards in four games in a row. That streak broke in the Tennessee Titans’ loss to the Chargers on Sunday, but another notable streak also broke that day: his interception streak. Ward avoided throwing a pick in a game for the first time since Week 2, helping him climb up the rankings.

It’s a win for Ward not being the second-worst quarterback in QBi grading, but he still has a lot to clean up. His 24.7% third-down conversion rate is the worst in the NFL among qualified quarterbacks, and he still only has five passing touchdowns to six interceptions.

    34) Tyrod Taylor, New York Jets

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 56.1 (F)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 34

The New York Jets had their bye week in Week 9, so there was no change in grading for either of their two quarterbacks. Regardless, Justin Fields seems to have held onto the starting job over Tyrod Taylor.

    33) Russell Wilson, New York Giants

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 62.3 (D-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 33

Russell Wilson sat behind rookie Jaxson Dart for the New York Giants’ Week 9 matchup, and head coach Brian Daboll says that will remain the case for the rest of the season.

    32) Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 64.5 (D)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 32

After missing Week 8 due to injury, Bryce Young made his return to the field in Week 9, where he helped the Carolina Panthers beat the Packers off a last-second field goal to improve to 5-4. Much of that came from the ground game and the defense, though, as Young only threw for 102 yards with no touchdowns, an interception, and a passer rating of just 48.3.

Given Young’s low ranking on this list, it should come as no surprise that he ranks near the bottom of most of PFSN’s analytical categories. He’s also averaging just 173.8 passing yards per game, and he’s near the bottom with a completion percentage of just 61.1% this season.

    31) Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 66.5 (D)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 31

It wasn’t Trevor Lawrence’s arm that played the biggest factor in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ overtime win over the Raiders. Instead, it was the two rushing touchdowns he scored that helped overcome the interception and lack of passing touchdowns he threw on Sunday.

The only three quarterbacks on this list with a lower completion percentage than Lawrence this season are Cam Ward, McCarthy, and Wilson. He’s averaging a solid 10.5 yards per completion, but when you’re as inaccurate as Lawrence has been this year, that tends to fall into the background.

    30) Spencer Rattler, New Orleans Saints

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 66.6 (D)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 29

Spencer Rattler didn’t play in Week 9, as the New Orleans Saints benched him for rookie Tyler Shough. It provided similar results, though, as the offense stalled out in a loss that dropped them to 1-8.

    29) Justin Fields, New York Jets

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 69.7 (D+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 28

Coming off their first win of the season in Week 8, Justin Fields and the New York Jets had their bye week in Week 9. His grade doesn’t change for this week, though he drops a spot due to movement around him.

    28) Marcus Mariota, Washington Commanders

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 69.8 (D+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 26

Marcus Mariota didn’t throw any passes in the Washington Commanders’ blowout loss to the Seahawks on Sunday night. Jayden Daniels stepped back into the starting lineup and returned from injury, but he proceeded to suffer a dislocated elbow near the end of the game. The unfortunate injury likely means Mariota will return to the starting role.

    27) Joe Flacco, Cincinnati Bengals

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 70.1 (C-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 30

Having spent most of the season near the bottom of these rankings, Joe Flacco has slowly been climbing up the ranks since his trade to the Bengals. It certainly helped his case when he threw for a career-high 470 yards with four touchdowns in their shootout loss to the Bears on Sunday.

Flacco has looked rejuvenated in Cincinnati’s offense in his first three games with the team. Having surpassed 200 passing yards just twice in five starts with the Browns, he’s now averaging 345 passing yards per game with the Bengals, with nine touchdowns to two interceptions in the process.

    26) Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta Falcons

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 70.1 (C-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 25

Kirk Cousins stepped in for Michael Penix Jr. last week due to injury, but the latter made his return to the starting lineup in Week 9 against the Patriots. Unfortunately for him, Penix was unable to pick up the win for the Atlanta Falcons, despite throwing for three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Penix’s three touchdowns this week go a long way to make his TD:INT ratio look better, as he entered Sunday with just five passing touchdowns to three interceptions this season. His 60.8% completion rate plays a role in his EPA sitting at a dead-even 0.0 at this stage of the year.

    25) Carson Wentz, Minnesota Vikings

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 72.3 (C-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 24

Carson Wentz is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 regular season due to a shoulder injury. His grade will remain the same for the foreseeable future.

    24) Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 72.6 (C-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 17

Having defeated the red-hot Colts on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers come away from Week 9 as one of its biggest winners. The same can’t be said for Aaron Rodgers, who slides down seven spots in this week’s QBi rankings. Something tells me that’s a sacrifice he’d be willing to make, though.

Rodgers ranks 33rd with a 30.1% third-down conversion rate, which is a percentage that will need to get better if the Steelers are to make noise in the playoffs this year. That said, he’s also tied for third with 17 passing touchdowns, throwing just five interceptions in the process.

    23) Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 73.0 (C-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 19

After a loss to the Ravens, which saw his Miami Dolphins offense put up just six points on Thursday night, Tua Tagovailoa slips a few spots down the rankings. He threw for a solid 265 yards, but he didn’t score any touchdowns and threw an interception in the process.

Even with his high passing total this week, Tagovailoa is still averaging less than 200 passing yards a game. He’s also tied for the league lead with 11 interceptions, one of many factors hindering the Dolphins’ progress this season.

    22) Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 74.3 (C)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 23

It’s been a season to forget for Jayden Daniels, who has missed games this season due to three separate injuries. Sunday night was particularly brutal for him, as the Washington Commanders lost 38-14 to the Seahawks. Daniels ended the game with 153 passing yards, a rushing touchdown, and an interception in the loss.

But as previously mentioned, Daniels unfortunately suffered a dislocated shoulder late in garbage time. Should the injury sideline him for the remainder of the year, he’d finish the season with 1,184 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, two interceptions, 262 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, and a 2-4 record as starter.

    21) Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 74.3 (C)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 22

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had their bye week in Week 9, and that’s probably for the best for Baker Mayfield. He’s had some ups and downs in 2025, with more of the latter having come in recent weeks. The talent is there for him to return to a high grade; he just has to get back on track.

    20) C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 75.1 (C)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 21

C.J. Stroud didn’t play much of the Houston Texans’ loss to the Broncos on Sunday, as he departed the game early with a concussion. Before his injury, he had a 60% completion percentage with 79 passing yards, having been sacked twice in the process.

    19) Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 75.2 (C)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 18

Kyler Murray will miss the Arizona Cardinals’ Monday night game due to a foot injury that has sidelined him for the last few weeks.

    18) Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 76.9 (C)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 27

A massive riser up these rankings coming out of Week 9, Geno Smith kept the Las Vegas Raiders competitive in a tight battle with the Jaguars. He threw an interception in the loss, which is pretty par for the course for him this season. However, he also threw for 284 yards and four touchdowns, which is more than enough to propel him up this list.

Smith is tied for the league lead with 11 interceptions, and that recklessness could make it tough for him to climb much higher than the middle of the pack. That said, he’s also shown the ability to go off for an explosive outing on just about any given week.

    17) Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 77.3 (C+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 20

After leading the Chicago Bears to a 47-point outing and a win over the Bengals on Sunday, it’s no surprise Caleb Williams finds himself climbing a few spots in these rankings. He threw for 280 yards with no interceptions and three touchdowns, including a game-winner to Colston Loveland in the fourth quarter. He also ran for 53 yards and caught two passes for 22 yards and a touchdown.

Generally speaking, Williams has been average in nearly every analytical category PFSN has for quarterbacks this season. There’s room for improvement, particularly in the accuracy department, but there’s certainly been growth along the way. Specifically, he’s tied with Patrick Mahomes for tenth place in the NFL with 7.1 net yards per attempt.

    16) Jaxson Dart, New York Giants

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 77.7 (C+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 16

Jaxson Dart remains perfectly serviceable as a starter to begin his NFL career, which is better than a lot of rookie quarterbacks coming out of college. He threw two touchdowns and ran for another in the New York Giants’ matchup against the 49ers on Sunday, but he was unable to propel his team to victory in a 34-24 loss.

Most notably, Dart ranks fifth in the NFL with a 47.2% third-down conversion rate. He’s only surpassed 200 passing yards in two of his six starts with the Giants, but he’s also getting it done with 251 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in that stretch.

    15) Bo Nix, Denver Broncos

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 77.8 (C+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 14

Even though Bo Nix didn’t exactly light it up with his 68.9 passer rating against the Texans on Sunday, he still did enough to help the Denver Broncos pick up the win. Now winners of six straight games, they’ve benefitted from Nix scoring ten scrimmage touchdowns in his last three games.

With a 61.2% completion percentage, there are certainly some flaws in Nix’s game in Year 2. But he’s also tied for third in the NFL with 17 passing touchdowns, and his 0.95 clutch sum is the third-highest score in the league, trailing only Dak Prescott and Geno Smith.

    14) Mac Jones, San Francisco 49ers

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 78.6 (C+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 15

The San Francisco 49ers improved to 6-3 on Sunday, with Mac Jones playing in relief of the injured Brock Purdy yet again this week. He fared well in the win over the Giants, passing for 235 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 135.2 passer rating.

It was helpful for Jones to throw a clean game in Week 9, as he had thrown interceptions in his previous three games. He ranks fourth in passing yards per game with an average of 261.7, though he generally ranges from average to slightly above average in most of PFSN’s analytical categories.

    13) Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 81.4 (B-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 13

Jared Goff’s ranking remains the same after a solid outing against the Vikings, but one in which the Detroit Lions were unable to pick up the victory. He threw for 284 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in the loss.

With a clean-pocket EPA of 0.55, Goff is the second-most efficient pocket passer in the NFL this season. He is what he is at this point: he’s hardly a quarterback who will extend the play with his athleticism or make flashy passes on the move, but he’s a precise passer with a high football IQ who can lead a clean offense.

    12) Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 82.3 (B-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 7

There’s been some uncharacteristic inconsistencies out of Patrick Mahomes in 2025 so far. He’s looked like his typical, perennial MVP-contending self in some cases. He had some big plays on Sunday, throwing for 250 yards on just 15 completions. But he also completed just 44.1% of his attempts in the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Bills.

Mahomes is still the second-most efficient quarterback under pressure, as his EPA under duress trails only Dak Prescott. His completed passes have been extremely efficient, but his 64.6% completion percentage ranks only in the middle of the pack this season.

    11) Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 82.7 (B-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 11

As a playoff contender playing at home against one of the NFL’s bottom-feeders, Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams were heavy favorites against the Saints on Sunday. That expectation played out, as Stafford passed for 281 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 140.8 passer rating in an emphatic victory.

He doesn’t lead the NFL in passing yards because the Rams have a bye week, but his 268.4 passing yards per game still lead the league. He’s also thrown a league-best 21 passing touchdowns this season to just two interceptions, though his third-down conversion rate falls out of the top 15.

    10) Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 82.8 (B-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 10

Check back for Jacoby Brissett’s updated ranking after Monday Night Football.

    9) Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 83.3 (B)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 9

The Los Angeles Chargers have proven they can live with the lumps that Justin Herbert’s game provides, since the benefits he brings their offense are well worth it. He threw his fourth interception in the last three games against the Titans on Sunday, but he also had 250 passing yards, three touchdowns from scrimmage, and 57 rushing yards in the win.

As of this writing, Herbert ranks second in the NFL with 18 passing touchdowns and third in the league with 265.6 passing yards per game, trailing only Matthew Stafford and Daniel Jones in the latter category. He’s tied for third with eight interceptions, which drags his EPA per dropback average down to 13th.

    8) Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 83.7 (B)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 8

Jalen Hurts’ grade doesn’t change coming out of Week 9, seeing as though the Philadelphia Eagles had their bye week. He’s been a perfectly capable passer who can take advantage of a strong running game to catch opposing defenses off guard through the air.

    7) Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 86.8 (B)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 5

Check back for Dak Prescott’s updated ranking after Monday Night Football.

    6) Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 87.0 (B+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 4

Lamar Jackson made his return to the Baltimore Ravens at just the right time. He didn’t use his legs too much in his first game back from injury, but it didn’t end up mattering, as he threw for four touchdowns and no interceptions in the victory over Miami on Thursday night.

With Jackson having missed time due to injury, his sample size is a bit smaller than that of other quarterbacks on this list. However, the Ravens are winners of two games in a row, keeping them in the playoff race still. If he plays as well as he usually does, they should be able to stack up wins to catch back up in no time.

    5) Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 87.9 (B+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 11

Not only does Sam Darnold find his way into the top ten, but he shoots all the way up into the No. 5 spot after his stellar outing against the Commanders on Sunday Night Football. He threw for 330 yards, four touchdowns, an interception, and an 87.5% completion rate in the Seattle Seahawks’ resounding 38-14 victory.

With 9.4 net yards per attempt, Darnold comfortably leads the NFL in that particular category. For reference, Drake Maye is in second place with an 8.4 average. When you’re a whole yard ahead of first place, that shows just how efficiently Seattle’s passing attack has been moving down the field.

    4) Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 89.7 (B+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 6

A rock-solid win sees Josh Allen return to the top five in QBi grading in the NFL this season. He finished the Buffalo Bills’ win over the Chiefs with three total touchdowns, 273 passing yards, and an impressive 123.2 passer rating.

It’s not surprising that the reigning MVP has been extremely reliable for the 6-2 Bills this year. Allen ranks fifth in EPA per dropback, eighth in clutch sum rating, and sixth with 7.8 net yards per attempt. He’s also fifth among qualified quarterbacks with a 70.4% completion percentage.

    3) Drake Maye, New England Patriots

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 89.9 (B+)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 3

The New England Patriots are winners of six games in a row coming out of Week 9, and Drake Maye has been a big reason for that streak. He had a 102.5 passer rating in Sunday’s narrow win over the Falcons, throwing a pick but also adding 259 passing yards and two touchdowns.

As previously mentioned, Maye ranks second in the league in net yards per attempt. He also ranks fourth in EPA per dropback, and he’s the fourth-most efficient passer in the league in a clean pocket through this week.

    2) Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 91.9 (A-)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 2

Despite the Green Bay Packers’ upset loss to the Panthers at home on Sunday, Jordan Love remains in the No. 2 spot of these rankings. He ended the game with a 70.3% completion percentage, passing for 273 yards but scoring no touchdowns and adding an interception in the defeat.

Love is still tied with Lamar Jackson with the highest EPA per dropback average in the NFL at 0.27. He ranks seventh among qualified quarterbacks with 258.9 passing yards per game, and he’s the third-most efficient QB in the league on third downs. It’s been a pretty strong season for him thus far.

    1) Daniel Jones, Indianapolis Colts

    2025 PFSN QBi Grade: 93.5 (A)

    Last Week’s Ranking: 1

Though his QBi grade took a dip from an A+ to an A after Week 9, Daniel Jones remains at the top of PFSN’s QBi grading scale for the seventh week in a row. He threw for 342 yards but also had an uncharacteristic three interceptions, as well as three fumbles (two recovered) in the Indianapolis Colts’ loss to the Steelers.

As one could expect, given his extremely high grade, Jones ranks in the top five in practically every major passing category that PFSN has in its analytics database. His down game against the Steelers certainly narrows the gap between him and the rest of the league, but that shouldn’t put a damper on how good he’s been this season.
