Who Is the Oldest Owner of an NFL Team?

Chicago Bears owner Virginia Halas McCaskey passed away in February 2025. She was 102 years old, the oldest owner in the NFL since Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson died in 2014.

McCaskey inherited the Bears from her father, team founder, and NFL legend George Halas, upon his death in 1983. Halas originally planned to hand the club over to his son, George Jr., but the younger Halas died in 1979.

After her death, Bengals owner Mike Brown is now the oldest owner in the NFL. Cincinnati has failed to make the playoffs in the last two seasons, but with Joe Burrow as the quarterback, the AFC North franchise will be a Super Bowl contender for years to come.

Brown has invested a lot of money in the team by signing players like Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins to lucrative contract extensions over the last few years.

Who Is the Youngest Owner of an NFL Team?

After Jim Irsay’s death on May 21, 2025, his eldest daughter, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, became the CEO and principal owner of the Colts.

She is now the youngest owner in the NFL and has been spotted on the sidelines during games. The Colts have started the season 2-0, and Carlie’s involvement with the team might be good for the franchise.

The Colts started the season with Daniel Jones at quarterback, and so far, it looks like the right decision. While Anthony Richardson’s future remains uncertain, the team’s success under head coach Shane Steichen remains the top priority.
