Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning has seen almost everything under the sun over an 18-year career.
And yet, the legendary NFL icon still can’t shake the disdain he feels whenever an offensive player makes a critical mistake. Especially one that leads to a turnover in a must-win game.

What Happened During Deebo Samuel’s Monday Night Football Miscue?
Barely five minutes into Monday night’s game between the Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs, Manning and the rest of the country witnessed do-it-all wideout Deebo Samuel Sr. committing a costly error. Quarterback Marcus Mariota tried to complete a screen pass to Samuel, but the 29-year-old pass catcher took his eyes off the ball.
The ball ricocheted off his facemask, up into the air, and eventually landed in the hands of Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna for an interception. Manning, who was hosting the weekly ManningCast on ESPN with his younger brother, Eli, reacted immediately.

“You’re kidding me. That cannot happen. That can’t happen,” Manning exclaimed, seemingly deflated. “He took his eyes off of it.”
Manning spent 14 seasons as the Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback, leading them to a Super Bowl victory over the Chicago Bears in February 2007. After sitting out the entirety of the 2011 campaign with a neck injury, he joined the Denver Broncos, where he remained for the twilight of his career. He played four seasons for the Broncos, winning a second Super Bowl in 2015, his final year in the league.
Commanders Trying to Stay Afloat in NFC
When the Commanders fall behind in the NFC East, the margin for error becomes even thinner by the week. They’re 3-4 without Jayden Daniels at quarterback, who is currently sitting out his third game of the season. He missed two games with a knee injury and is battling a hamstring strain.
Both teams have traded turnovers in the first half. Mariota, who is starting his third game of the season instead of Daniels, has thrown an interception. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has thrown two heading into Monday’s game, and like Mariota, one interception resulted from a failed catch attempt from tight end Travis Kelce. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore and linebacker Bobby Wagner have interceptions for the Commanders’ defense.
In his first season in Washington, Samuel has a PFSN WR Impact score of 81.2.
