The Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel scandal dominated the NFL offseason for weeks. Over time, though, the noise surrounding it has quieted down considerably.
And throughout these times, Russini has been silent and hasn’t publicly shared her side of things. NFL insider Mike Florio, however, thinks that silence might not last much longer.
Mike Florio Predicts Dianna Russini Could Go Public Before NFL Season Opener
Recently, during a segment on “Pro Football Talk Live,” Florio pointed to a specific window when Russini might finally speak up.
“She’s been very quiet; she’s disappeared… she hadn’t spoken to anyone,” Florio said. “I remember when the Patriots got the assignment to start the season Wednesday, September 9, I said, ‘Boy, Tuesday night, September 8, that’s a hell of a time for a live interview with Oprah or Morley Safer or someone where she can tell her whole story.’
“That would throw a hell of a wrench into the Week 1 game between the Patriots and the Seahawks,” he added.
If that scenario plays out, it only deepens the trouble for Vrabel. He is already in a tough spot as the season approaches, and has been called out for this scandal throughout the offseason.

Crisis management strategist Molly McPherson also joined the conversation, highlighting the Patriots’ head coach’s lack of accountability.
“Vrabel is running, in my opinion, a staged rehabilitation, albeit somewhat clumsily,” McPherson told USA TODAY Sports.
In the weeks after the scandal broke, the New England Patriots’ head coach tried to shift the conversation. Vrabel leaned into themes of personal growth and internal reflection, hoping to redirect public attention away from the initial controversy.
McPherson, however, warned that the public saw right through it. The pivot felt manufactured, and few were convinced. “He still hasn’t taken accountability, so people are still going to look for it,” she added.

And if Russini goes public before the Patriots’ September 9 season opener, the pressure multiplies. Not only would this make the scandal a huge distraction once again right before the Patriots’ season kicks off, but it could also lead to new info surfacing that potentially gets Vrabel in trouble.
To this point, the NFL has refused to investigate Vrabel since the league is treating the scandal as a personal matter, but that could change depending on what Russini says in a tell-all interview.
However, NFL writer Crissy Froyd argued that there is a chance the public won’t believe Russini even if she shares her side of the story.
“I think there are a lot of reasons she’s not saying anything right now. But part of me questions… I think she’d have to supply a lot of evidence,” she said on “Mike Drop With Mike Asti.”
“I think after the indignant statement that she made, which has now been proven false entirely, and even what Vrabel said, I think a decent number of people will believe her, but I think some people will go, ‘You have no credibility, and you’re a liar. You’re gonna kick and scream and say this about this person, but we’re not gonna believe you.’ I think she will have to show some legitimate evidence or have people corroborate her.”
Froyd was citing Russini’s initial statement and her resignation letter to The Athletic. Russini wrote she was leaving “not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career” and insisted she had “covered the NFL with professionalism.”
Froyd previously lost her job at USA TODAY Sports in April after speaking out about the scandal. She is writing for other outlets now, and recently decided to attend law school to study criminal defense.
For now, it remains to be seen whether Russini will give an interview or stay silent.
