What happened during this year’s conference championship round?
Patriots vs. Broncos AFC Championship Recap
With the Broncos being down their starting quarterback, Bo Nix, Sean Payton and his men entered the AFC Championship game as underdogs.
However, the Denver crowd and defense did what they could to compensate for the freezing conditions at Mile High. While the offense, led by backup Jarrett Stidham, could muster only one touchdown drive in the first quarter, the defense held the Patriots to a minimum on the scoreboard.
But New England proved to be the superior force, as quarterback Drake Maye drove the offense into field goal range in the third quarter. Kicker Andy Borregales’s successful kick was enough to get the Pats past the Broncos, 10-7.
Rams vs. Seahawks NFC Championship Recap
The Rams sported a loaded roster heading into the conference championship tilt against the Seahawks, but Seattle matched the visitors’ energy.
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, with a 78.7 PFSN QB Impact rating, was on point, throwing for 346 yards and three touchdowns. Wideout Jaxson Smith-Njigba and running back Kenneth Walker also had strong outings, helping the offense put up 31 points on the day.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s solid performance next to wideout Puka Nacua wasn’t enough to get them past the hosts, as their exploits served up only 27 points in the end.
Patriots vs. Seahawks Super Bowl 60 Preview
Super Bowl 60 will be a showdown between two teams with vastly different stories. The Patriots ran through what many deem one of the easiest regular-season schedules in almost two decades. They capitalized on the favorable circumstances and struck another bit of luck when Nix was ruled out for the AFC Championship game. Stidham couldn’t stop them, but now they’ll face the biggest challenge of their campaign in the Seahawks.
Seattle, on the other hand, enters the Super Bowl on the back of having faced an extremely tough schedule. Mike Macdonald’s men surmounted the impossible challenge of winning the NFC West, the strongest division in the NFL this season, then proceeded to march through the playoffs with authority. It should be an exciting 60th anniversary of the Super Bowl era, with fans tuning in by the millions.
