Veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander is on the market after the Green Bay Packers shockingly decided to release him. He’s endured back-to-back injury-shortened seasons, but can still be a productive piece for any NFL defense.
The news prompted many responses from players and fans alike. Let’s look at some reactions of fans from across the league.
Fans Lobbying Many NFL Teams To Sign Jaire Alexander After Surprising Release
Alexander was a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and has spent his entire seven-year career with the Packers. He made an immediate impact as a rookie, posting 66 tackles (still a career high), 11 pass breakups, and an interception.
The next two seasons were excellent as Alexander totaled 109 tackles, 30 pass breakups, and three interceptions over the two campaigns. He was named a second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler after the 2020 season, despite having better numbers in 2019.
He appeared in at least 13 games each of his first three seasons, but has had three of the next four years cut short by injury. Alexander played in four regular-season games in 2021, seven in 2023, and seven last season.
He started 16 games in 2022, posting 56 tackles, 14 PBUs, and five interceptions, but has spent too much time on the sidelines or injured reserve in recent years. The Packers signed Alexander to a four-year, $84 million contract in the 2022 offseason, but decided that they’d had enough and let him go.
The NFL’s X account tweeted the news via Ian Rapoport, and fans immediately lobbied their favorite teams to pursue Alexander.

Baltimore Ravens fans led the way by leaning on Alexander’s connection to former Louisville teammate Lamar Jackson. One fan tweeted, “Will be cool when he goes to the Ravens and gives them on paper maybe the greatest secondary ever.”
Another posted a picture of Jackson and Alexander standing next to each other during the Packers and Ravens joint practices last season with the message, “This got ravens all over it @Lj_era8 @LouisvilleFB Whatsup ???”

The Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and New Orleans Saints were all represented by fans responding to the NFL’s tweet. A New Orleans fan tweeted, “Go on ahead Saints.” A Dolphins fan took a shot at Alexander’s age and Miami’s front office by tweeting, “Yall love them 28 and up CB @MiamiDolphins go get him.”
Arguably, the best response came from a fan who simply tweeted a GIF of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones adjusting his sunglasses.
The team with the most fan representation was the Philadelphia Eagles. One fan reacted to the NFL’s post by tweeting, “Howie Reaper Roseman has the potential to do something great.”
A pair of Eagles fans reacted to a tweet from NFL writer Ari Meirov, who said that the Packers attempted to keep Alexander on a restructured deal before releasing him. One fan tweeted, “Don’t worry, Howie Roseman gone pay him.” Another fan jokingly posted, “He going to the eagles on a 1 year 2 million dollar deal,” leaning on the idea of Alexander taking less money to play for one of the best teams in the league.
Alexander has a lot left in the tank, but teams will have to fully vet his injury history before making an offer. Expect the former Packer to land with a contender.
