The New York Giants have all of the pieces in place. A stellar defense with an explosive front paves the way for a plethora of players on the offense still on their rookie deals. From Malik Nabers to Jaxson Dart, they have potential franchise cornerstones at every spot.
Alongside their quarterback, though, the team believes it may have found its answer at running back last year, too. Drafting Cam Skattebo has been a massive success for the organization as he’s turned into a fan favorite. But the analytics aren’t firmly in his favor.
Bizarre Post on Cam Skattebo Draws Backlash
Splitting time between Arizona State and Sacramento State, he was named a first-team All-American in 2024. Still, he wasn’t a revered prospect heading into the draft, falling to the Giants in the fourth round.
But he was immediately given a large percentage of the snaps, as his bull-rush mentality immediately sent crowds into a frenzy. His near-reckless abandon became a favorite for the masses, and he’s become an extremely popular name in New York.
According to PFN’s RB Impact Metric, Skattebo posted an impact score of 70.9 last season, ranking 40th at his position.

PFF, though, isn’t a fan of his style, even outright mocking him with a clip of a robot running into a wall, as they remain unconvinced that it is a viable style of success in the NFL, particularly at the running back position.

For his ardent supporters, though, the joke at his expense felt unnecessary. Sam Monson, who was a member of PFF at one point in time, couldn’t hide his shock as he exclaimed, “This account has become an embarrassment.”

Others, too, were aghast at the kind of commentary from one of the most reputed analytical companies in the world, as Tyler Sovchik added, “Idiots ran this company into the ground. Idiots still attempt to run what’s left. Here’s proof of the idiot portion I had mentioned earlier.”

One fan called them out directly for the way they had handled things in recent months, stating, “You guys fired the only people who ever gave this company any semblance of credibility & now all you do is post slop.”
Hail Mary Sports, who have become a gold mine of NFL Draft content, believed the company might face direct consequences for this post. “I wonder how the Giants feel about you trashing their guy when they have contracts with you. Intern bouta get booted real quick turning PFF into Sleeper.”

For a few fans, trying to make memes was the final straw, as they outright stated, “Unfollowed – which was a long time coming.” That sentiment was common for others, too, as one fan added, “No one needs PFF to be a brain-dead meme account.”

For nearly two decades, PFF has been the holy grail of football statistics and analytics. As a result, they have been the go-to tool for a whole generation of fans, who have adopted it as a standard feature of their sporting experience.
But the recent changes are too much for them to stomach. As one fan complained, “wtf happened to this company!?” Another fan added, “Why did you ruin such an awesome account?”
Earlier this year, PFF’s enterprise data business was sold to Teamworks. After the deal, the company reportedly reduced its editorial, podcast, social media, and digital content teams.
It remains to be seen whether such a loud outcry against them will change PFF’s tune in the near future. But for the time being, their stunt against Skattebo seems to have widely backfired.
Even if their idea was correct, the way they’ve gone about making their point is a far cry from the professionalism the company was once renowned for.
