The 2025 quarterback class has been labeled as one of the weakest groups in recent memory. While many expect the Tennessee Titans to select former Miami Hurricanes star Cam Ward first overall, there have been questions about when the next quarterback will come off the board.
Additionally, many have questioned whether this year’s draft has even one future star at the position. One NFL coach recently ripped the quarterback class as a whole, claiming that only one player in the group possesses one elite ability at the position.
NFL Coach Labels Jalen Milroe As the Only Quarterback With Elite Ability
Jalen Milroe had an up-and-down year in his final season playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He threw for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 64.3% of his pass attempts, adding 726 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on 168 carries.
While he has largely been projected to fall to the second day of the 2025 NFL Draft, one NFL coach believes he is the only quarterback in this year’s draft class who possesses an elite ability. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated shared the comments from the anonymous AFC coordinator on Tuesday:
“For me, there’s no reason Milroe can’t be Jalen Hurts. In a bad quarterback class, big picture, he’s the only guy who has a truly elite ability. I know how bad he looked at times throwing it, but he might be the best quarterback runner I’ve ever evaluated. He’s a better runner than Lamar [Jackson] was in college.”
While the comparison to Hurts and Jackson – both of whom have thrived in the NFL – suggests that the coordinator believes Milroe has stardom in his future, there are plenty of questions about his passing ability. In the same piece, an AFC quarterbacks coach suggested that a better comparison for the former Crimson Tide star is Anthony Richardson, who has struggled mightily over his first two seasons – and will compete with Daniel Jones for the Indianapolis Colts’ starting job.
Milroe has been projected to be a Day 2 pick, however, a general manager recently suggested that he could come off the board late in the first round. It is unclear which team will wind up gambling on the polarizing prospect.
He has met with the Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Rams, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks, among others. Milroe is one of 15 prospects who have accepted an invite to attend the 2025 NFL Draft.
