Aaron Rodgers has had quite a distinguished career with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, and now the Pittsburgh Steelers. He signed a one-year deal with the Steelers before the start of the 2025 NFL season.
While Rodgers has made it clear that this is his final NFL season, he’s also been climbing up the ranks among passing leaders in the NFL. On Thursday night, Rodgers made another move and passed a Steelers legend to do so.

What NFL Record Did Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers Set?
During Thursday night’s game between the Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium in Ohio, Rodgers moved into fifth place in NFL history in all-time passing yards.
Rodgers passed Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger to get into the No. 5 spot.

Tom Brady holds down the No. 1 spot among all-time NFL passing leaders with 89,214 yards. After him are Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, and now Rodgers. It’s pretty ironic to see Favre and Rodgers at Nos. 4 and 5 since they both played together with the Packers at one point.
Rodgers and the Steelers ultimately lost to Joe Flacco and the Bengals 33-31 in the battle between two grizzled old NFL veterans on Thursday night. Rodgers was a first-round draft choice by the Packers in the 2005 NFL Draft out of California.

He’s led Pittsburgh to a 4-2 record in the 2025 NFL season. Rodgers finished Thursday’s game with 249 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 23-of-34 of his passes.
Rodgers is playing well this season and has developed a strong connection with star wide receiver DK Metcalf. The Steelers’ addition of Metcalf this season gives Rodgers a solid go-to option. The four-time NFL MVP is currently ranked the 20th-best QB in the league based on PFSN’s Quarterback Impact metric.
Rodgers’s NFL career has had peaks and valleys. He had to overcome a season-ending Achilles injury in his first season with the Jets. Rodgers played one more season in New York before joining Pittsburgh. The Steelers have been trying to find a long-term solution at quarterback ever since Roethlisberger retired from the NFL.
Rodgers is planning to retire after this season (barring a change of heart), so the team and head coach Mike Tomlin will have to find another starting quarterback to replace Rodgers next season. As for this season, though, Tomlin and Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith are hoping Rodgers can lead the Steelers to the franchise’s seventh Super Bowl win.
