The Indianapolis Colts have been unquestionably the biggest surprise of the 2025 NFL season through eight weeks. With question marks surrounding Anthony Richardson, they brought in Daniel Jones to offer some competition for the starting quarterback job, before the former lost his role thanks to injury. It seemed like the franchise was doomed, and their focus might shift to next year’s draft.
But with a league-best 7-1 record, they have shattered every expectation placed upon them, as they continue to produce a historic level. The biggest beneficiary of that turnaround has been the former New York Giants star, whose career seemed to be spiraling nowhere after being cut. However, one analyst remains unconvinced and believes the true colors of Jones will slowly but surely reveal themselves.
Daniel Jones Collapse Incoming?
Through eight games, Jones has completed 71.2% of his passes, thrown for 2,062 passing yards, and recorded 13 touchdowns against just three interceptions for a passer rating of 109.5, which ranks him first on PFSN’s QB Impact.
That success has paved the way for the Colts to be the league’s highest-ranked offense on PFSN’s Offense Impact, as they seem like a true contender to the AFC throne. But for the host of First Things First, Nick Wright, the situation is too good to be true.
During the latest episode of the show, a Halloween-themed special, he used the festival to argue, “Do I believe that Daniel Jones can keep the magic trick going? I do not.”
Comparing it to a magic show, he believed folks were believing it because they wanted to, and because they had seen it for eight weeks straight.
.@getnickwright believes in Jonathan Taylor… but he doesn’t believe in the magic of Daniel Jones and the Colts 🎩🪄

However, he isn’t moved by the numbers just yet. “It’s a fun show, but I know it’s not real.” Calling it a “fun story,” he finished his soliloquy by stating, “I do not believe that this is the best team in football.”
Judging by the raw numbers, it is hard to find a rationale behind Wright’s dismissal. But the career Jones has had thus far should give folks pause. Never throwing for more than 3,200 yards in a season, he has perennially had a turnover problem, with a TD-INT ratio that’s under 1.6.
It will be interesting to see how long the pixie dust magic lasts. Or if this can turn out to be an outlier and truly be a new beginning in his career. But for now, caution is the word around Indianapolis.

That’s dumb. You’re dumb.
