Jaire Alexander joined the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, signing a one-year, $4 million contract that includes incentives, which could bring the total value to $6 million. The signing comes just one day after his college teammate, Lamar Jackson, publicly expressed his desire for the franchise to add the cornerback.
Alexander has been among the best players in the league at his position when healthy. He has struggled with injuries, however, as he played just four games in 2021 and seven games in each of the past two seasons.
The two-time All-Pro, who was released by the Green Bay Packers last week, recorded 16 total tackles, 15 solo tackles, two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, one fumble recovery, and seven passes defended last season. An NFL analyst recently made the case that he could be the missing link for the Ravens’ Super Bowl push.
NFL Analyst Believes Jaire Alexander Could Be Final Piece of Ravens Super Bowl Puzzle
The Ravens figure to have one of the league’s most impressive secondaries as Alexander joins cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins, as well as safeties Kyle Hamilton and rookie Malaki Starks, in the defensive backfield. Field Yates believes that the signing could be the final piece to push the Ravens over the top. Speaking on NFL Live, the NFL insider stated:
“It’s not a front line need in terms of starting a game tomorrow needing him on the field for the very first snap more, but this is a team that last year struggled to defend the pass as you noted. And Jaire Alexander — the best part of this deal, in my opinion, is the fact that it is a one-year deal.
“This is a motivated player who, over the past four seasons — four — has been just as likely to be on the field as he is off the field. So, Jaire Alexander has a chance to play for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations.
“Does not need to be a starter because the Ravens feel really good about their starting trio of Nate Wiggins — their first-round pick last year, of course — Marlon Humphrey and also Chidobe Awuzie, who they signed this offseason after he was released by the [Tennessee] Titans.
“But the kind of move the Baltimore Ravens can make in June that can sort of be like a finishing ingredient for a team that feels like it has the recipe to be a Super Bowl champion this year.”

The Ravens have reached the postseason in six of Jackson’s seven seasons on the roster; however, they have been unable to reach the Super Bowl. Their signing of Alexander represents a low-risk move that has the potential to pay off in a major way, if he is able to stay on the field.
