Four-time Pro Bowler Nick Chubb has been linked with a sensational return to the Cleveland Browns just a year after leaving the franchise as a free agent. Chubb signed a one-year contract with the Houston Texans, but endured a mixed season that ended with fewer opportunities in games toward the end of the year.
Analyst Urges Browns To Sign Nick Chubb
During Friday’s segment on the “92.3 The Fan,” analyst Spencer German advocated for the Browns to add the veteran presence of Chubb to offset the inexperience of the roster after the retirement of guard Joel Bitonio this year.
“Look around at this team,” German said. “The Browns, before the Myles Garrett trade, were the fourth-youngest roster… Having Nick Chubb in that locker room, especially in a locker room that could have benefited from Joel Bitonio coming back, just lost him; he retired. You could use some more veterans on this team.”
“I think Todd Monken is the perfect coach for where this team is now,” he added. They’re young, they need somebody who’s gonna hold them accountable. They need somebody who’s gonna show them how to be a pro and who’s gonna force the issue and get on them, and he’s doing that. He’s trying to set this culture and show them what it looks like.”
“I think there’s value in adding some veterans to this team…I’m not to sit here and act like this is Nick Chubb 3-5 years ago, but there is an experience, leadership piece that comes with this that would potentially help the Browns.”

“I’m not gonna sit here and act like this is Nick Chubb 3 or 5 years ago,” German continued. “But there is an experience piece and leadership piece, there’s a veteran knowledge piece that comes with this that I think would potentially help the Browns.”

The Browns’ running back room is inexperienced at best, anchored by second-year star Quinshon Judkins, who had a strong rookie season ended by a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle. In addition, the Browns will rely on second-year running backs Raheim Sanders and Dylan Sampson.
During his panel while attending the University Hospital’s SportsLand event at Huntington Bank Field earlier this week, Chubb left the door open for a potential reunion with the Browns.
“Obviously, Cleveland is a special place to me. Being drafted here by Jim Brown, and then my time here was truly amazing,” Chubb said. “You never know what can happen.”
Despite a dip in production in Houston, Chubb managed 506 rushing yards on 122 carries, resulting in three touchdowns last season, earning a PFSN Running Back Impact score of 34.3, good for No. 53 in the league.
Chubb is still ranked No. 3 overall in the Browns’ rushing yards list, with 6,843 yards, just behind Leroy Kelly (7,274 yards) and Jim Brown (12,312 yards). His later years in Cleveland were beset by injuries, including a torn MCL and damaged ACL in 2023 and a broken foot the next season, leading to his departure in free agency.
