NFL Analyst Blasts Shedeur Sanders for Landing in Trouble With Authorities Before Browns’ Training Camp

Shedeur Sanders is in hot water after a recent speeding ticket. He's now lost one of his loudest supporters after the immature mistake.

Cleveland Browns’ rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders made headlines by getting pulled over for driving over 100 miles per hour. He was coming off a strong performance at the team’s minicamp, but has caught a lot of heat for the misstep.

One of Sanders’ loudest advocates through the draft process has now turned on him because of the speeding ticket, and he recently let his thoughts be known.

Colin Cowherd Hammers Browns’ QB Shedeur Sanders for Speeding Ticket

Cleveland added Sanders to its chaotic quarterback competition by making him the 144th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The team had already added Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and drafted Dillon Gabriel before taking Sanders. They also still have Deshaun Watson to deal with, even though he’s unlikely to play after tearing his Achilles a second time this offseason.

Sanders had been a model teammate since arriving in Cleveland. He visited local schools in hopes of inspiring students, but his recent mistake has put a dent in the goodwill he had built up.

FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd was one of Sanders’ biggest fans during the draft process, but has changed his tone since the speeding incident. The long-time host of “The Herd” discussed Sanders on a recent episode, which the show tweeted a clip of.

Cowherd’s rant began with him saying that Sanders’ draft position limits the number of mistakes he can make off the field. He said, “I have, in the last couple of months, two things that have turned me off with Shedeur Sanders, who I have championed. That cringy, awful, legendary draft room…you gotta have a little more self-awareness.

“And now, this. 100 miles per hour…Don’t minimize it. Don’t pander. This is not good for a quarterback…I don’t think about him the same…Judgment is 50% of being a quarterback. When you fall to 144 in the draft and then try to match that number behind the wheel of a car… yeah, I don’t think the same.”

He then spoke about how the Browns have historically ignored bad early signs from previous quarterbacks like Johnny Manziel and Baker Mayfield, and finished the rant by saying that he doesn’t think Sanders is mature enough right now.

The violation comes after Sanders firmly established himself in the Browns’ quarterback battle thanks to an impressive minicamp performance. He completed 77.4% of his passes (best of the four QBs) and threw nine touchdowns to just one interception.

Cleveland is coming off a historically bad year offensively. The unit finished 32nd in PFSN’s Offense+ metric, and the team completely re-worked the quarterback room. Pickett and Flacco are expected to compete for the starting job, while Sanders and Gabriel battle to prove themselves.

Sanders had the early advantage over Gabriel after minicamp, but this isn’t how he wanted to head into the summer. He’ll have to work even harder to prove his doubters wrong.
