Giants Floated As Landing Spot for 29-TD WR As New York Aims To Improve Russell Wilson’s Supporting Cast

The Giants need to win in 2025, but still need offensive help. See which free agent WR one analyst thinks is a good fit in New York.

The New York Giants appear to be going all-in for the 2025 season. Following a disastrous 2024 season that landed them the No. 3 overall pick, head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen are under pressure to deliver a major turnaround.

The team brought in Russell Wilson and drafted Jaxson Dart in the first round. Wilson is slated to start, but he still needs more weapons. One analyst recently named the Giants as a landing spot for a free agent receiver with an impressive postseason resume.

Giants Named As Landing Spot for Gabe Davis, Would Be Another Big-Play Threat for Russell Wilson

Wilson joins the Giants after one year with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 13-year veteran got Pittsburgh to the playoffs, but his play dipped late in the season, and the Steelers were bounced in the Wild Card Round.

He signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal with New York this offseason, with expectations of being the starter. However, it’s likely a matter of time before he’s benched for Dart.

Besides Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy Jr., New York’s offense is relatively unimpressive, so Wilson could struggle to produce if the team doesn’t add another receiver.

One possible option at wide receiver is free agent Gabe Davis, whom USA Today’s Nick Brinkerhoff recently identified as a potential fit for the Giants.

Brinkerhoff wrote, “Davis was one-and-done in Jacksonville, failing to take the next step following his departure from Buffalo. With just 20 catches, 239 yards, and two touchdowns in 10 games, Davis is a long way away from the four-touchdown game in the 2022 playoffs.

“Perhaps that player is still in there, and someone is bound to find out what the 26-year-old can do. He is a complementary piece at this point, but perhaps a change of scenery is what the doctor ordered.”

Davis, a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, spent his first four seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He never totaled more than 48 receptions, 836 receiving yards, or seven touchdowns in any of his four years with the Bills, but he came up huge in the 2021 postseason.

He earned the “Big Game Gabe” nickname after posting eight catches, 201 yards, and four touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round that year. Davis and Buffalo failed to reach an agreement after the 2023 season, and he signed a three-year, $39 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Davis only played in 10 games as a Jaguar after tearing his meniscus in Week 11. The injury and his poor performance (20 catches, 239 yards, two touchdowns) led Jacksonville’s new regime to show Davis the door earlier this offseason.

So, where would Davis fit in the Giants’ offense if he were to sign? Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Wan’Dale Robinson are the top options at receiver. Nabers was one of the very few bright spots for New York last year, but neither Slayton nor Robinson has totaled more than 751 yards in their careers.

Davis could slide into the WR2 role or at least complement Nabers effectively. The Giants’ win-now mentality should appeal to Davis, especially since he hasn’t gotten much interest to this point.
