Victor Wembanyama showed out in his highly anticipated NBA playoff debut on Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The 7-foot-4 French phenom stuffed the stat sheet en route to multiple records as the San Antonio Spurs cruised to a decisive 111-98 Game 1 home victory in the first-round Western Conference series, leaving the NBA world in awe.

Coming off a dominant 62-win regular season, San Antonio entered Sunday as the prohibitive favorite against a young, resurgent Portland squad.
Wembanyama wasted no time reminding fans why, getting to the rim at will for multiple highlight-worthy finishes, initiating offense, and draining 3-pointers in a historic first-half performance.
The two-time All-Star entered halftime with 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting (61.5%) in just 17 minutes, achieving the highest-scoring first half in a postseason debut since the league’s play-by-play era began in 1997.

Wembanyama didn’t stop there, though, putting the finishing touches on his offensive onslaught in the second half. With his fifth and final triple, which put the Spurs ahead 103-88 with 5:35 remaining, the big man surpassed franchise legend Tim Duncan (32 points), who was in attendance, for the most points in a San Antonio playoff debut.

The 22-year-old finished with a game-high 35 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 5 3s, shooting a blistering 13-for-21 (61.9%) overall, with his co-stars Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox each chipping in 17 points in the backcourt.
However, it was Wembanyama’s two-way prowess that left X buzzing.
“Wemby is ridiculous,” WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark asserted.

“Wemby was unsurprisingly dominant in his first playoff game with 35 points, and his towering defensive presence,” veteran NBA analyst Skip Bayless reacted.
Wemby was unsurprisingly dominant in his first playoff game with 35 points and his towering defensive presence. But Portland has a shot at winning a couple if it shoots better than 10-38 from 3 … compared to 15-33 for the Spurs. Simple as that.

Meanwhile, Hoop Central and Legion Hoops dubbed Wembanyama “UNSTOPPABLE” and a “GENERATIONAL TALENT.”
Sunday’s electric contest marked the Spurs’ first playoff game since 2019, as they have overcome an extensive rebuild to return to NBA title contention, with Wembanyama at the forefront.
While both San Antonio and the Deni Avdija-led Trail Blazers are relatively inexperienced squads, Wembanyama’s superhuman-like abilities have fueled hope that the former can expedite its championship timeline.
The Spurs will look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead in San Antonio on Tuesday before the series shifts to Portland for Game 3.
