The Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors are fighting to get out of the Western Conference Play-In Tournament race. The two teams were scheduled to face off in a massive game this weekend. However, a recent update by a top NBA insider revealed an abrupt change to the opening tip-off.
Timberwolves’ Home Game Against Warriors Has Been Postponed
NBA insider Shams Charania announced that the Timberwolves’ upcoming home game against the Golden State Warriors at Target Center in Minneapolis has been postponed. Charania said, “The Timberwolves-Warriors game has been postponed by the NBA, sources tell ESPN, in wake of a man shot and killed Saturday in a confrontation with federal agents in the city.”
Charania followed up with another tweet on X, saying “Timberwolves-Warriors has been rescheduled to Sunday at 5:30 pm ET in Minneapolis –turning this into a back-to-back Sunday and Monday between the two teams.”
Timberwolves’ official X handle also shared the news. There have been protests in Minneapolis throughout the month related to the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the city and the death of Renee Nicole Good.

The Timberwolves are currently seventh in the Western Conference with a 27-18 record. However, they’ve lost their last four games, and franchise player Anthony Edwards has been vocal at times about his displeasure during the team’s losing streak.
Edwards scored a career high 55 points as the San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 17, but followed that up with two poor shooting games against the Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls. Edwards may feel pressure to turn things around single-handedly. Forward Julius Randle is having a strong season, but the team is still searching for an upgrade at point guard.
The 25-21 Warriors are also on a losing streak that coincides with losing six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler III to a season-ending right ACL tear. Franchise player Stephen Curry said the team has to refocus and prepare for the rest of the season, as there’s still a lot of basketball left to be played this season.
The Warriors are also reportedly active in trade discussions as they look for Butler III’s temporary replacement and a new home for wing Jonathan Kuminga. The team will need some of their young players, like Moses Moody, to continue having productive seasons.
The Warriors lost the first game of their current road trip to the lowly Dallas Mavericks and will look to rebound against the Timberwolves or risk falling down the standings.
