As the No. 2-seeded Spurs tipped off their first-round Western Conference playoff series against the No. 7-seeded Trail Blazers, the NBA world was mesmerized by the scene inside the arena.
Welcoming postseason basketball back to the Alamo City for the first time since 2019, the franchise had the supporters in synchronized, Fiesta-themed T-shirts that completely transformed the arena.
As soon as the cameras panned across the Fiesta-soaked crowd, supporters and pundits praised San Antonio’s breathtaking playoff presentation.

“Whoever’s idea this is deserves a raise and/or promotion. Just wait til you see Wintrust next year,” an influencer remarked.
“Whoever came up with the color rush in San Antonio deserves a large raise. This is outstanding. Also, for those not wearing shirts in other buildings, what are we doing? Too cool for this? Spurs and their fans were more than ready for the first playoff game in 7 years. A++,” NBC Sports broadcaster John Fanta posted.

“Truly the best-run team in the NBA,” Hofstra Chronicle’s Holden Willemsen declared.
While the majority of the NBA community was delighted with the visual setup, The Ringer’s Bill Simmons voiced his displeasure with the colorful layout, saying, “The color-coordinated sections, I’ve got some thoughts … You’ve won five titles … It’s not the time for gimmicks; act like you’ve been here before. Felt like I was in a parade.”
However, veteran NBA analyst Zach Lowe was quick to keep Simmons in check, instantly shutting down the complaint.
“What do you want, just one color all the way around?” Lowe fired back. “Every franchise does this, though, they just do one color. … just a horrible take.”
Regardless of what outsiders thought, the color-coordinated crowd became the perfect backdrop for a historic performance by Wembanyama.
The French phenom utterly overwhelmed the Trail Blazers’ defense, finishing with a game-high 35 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks to break Tim Duncan’s franchise record for the most points in a playoff debut.
After his historic performance, Wembanyama expressed his approval of the colorful spectacle.
“It’s great to see this many people wear their shirts,” Wembanyama said. “Yeah, you should absolutely wear your shirt if you’re coming to the game.”
With the Frost Bank Center rocking after a 1-0 series lead, the Spurs will look to keep the momentum rolling. Game 2 against Portland is set to tip off in San Antonio on Tuesday.
