Anthony Davis made headlines a while ago after being traded to the Washington Wizards. Speaking publicly about the franchise recently, the 10-time All-Star did not hold back around the reality of where the Wizards currently stand.
The comments came during a recent appearance on Craig Melvin’s Glass Half Full podcast, and they are already making waves on social media for how blunt Davis was.

Anthony Davis Gets Brutally Honest On the Wizards
Davis did not hold back when asked about his new team and what he sees when he looks at Washington’s current state.
He said, “I told the owner this, I told GM, everybody, media, like, when you’re looking at the Washington Wizards, right? From the outside looking in, like, everybody’s right, you know? But when you get into the organization and see how great of an organization it is, like, the owner is amazing.”
“Obviously, the city is, D.C. is amazing. We are a very bad basketball team, for sure. On the flip side, I think it’s very tough to go from a bad team to a championship contender. It takes time, and that’s with anybody. I mean, it could be a team, you know, who’s just won and just, like, not good. So it takes time. It takes a couple years, you know?” he added.

The comment hasn’t gone down too well on social media, even among rival fans. One Dallas Mavericks fan even predicted that Davis will be shoved out the door soon, “AD is gonna get traded again before he ever puts on a Wizards jersey.”

Kevin Gray Jr., another prominent Mavericks analyst, also commented on what Davis had to say. He wrote on X, “Anthony Davis is not going to play a single, solitary second in Washington with the Wizards.”

Interestingly, Davis hasn’t played a single second for the Wizards yet. He appeared in just 20 games this season, all with the Mavericks, before the trade deadline deal sent him to Washington.
A left-hand ligament injury he had been managing since mid-season ultimately prevented him from ever suiting up in a Wizards uniform this year. He finishes the season having never played a single minute for the franchise he is now expected to build around, which complicates the optics of these comments.
Davis has $58.5 million guaranteed for next season and doesn’t become an unrestricted free agent until the 2028-29 season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for 2027-28, but we will have to wait and see whether Will Dawkins and Co. decide to keep him in D.C.
The Wizards have a solid chance to build over the next couple of years, with Trae Young now on the roster. But both of these All-Stars have proven to be quite injury-prone over the last few years, which would be a major concern for the franchise.
