Recently, Colin Keane of Celtics Confidential on X claimed that sources close to The Ringer’s Bill Simmons revealed that Brown was upset when the Celtics announced the returning Tatum last during player introductions.
“Jaylen Brown was upset when the Celtics placed Jayson Tatum back in the ‘announced last’ slot for pre-game introductions upon JT’s return last season, according to sources close to Bill Simmons,” wrote Celtics Confidential.
In sports, the last slot is often reserved for the face of the franchise. The post alleges that Brown may have felt his contribution was undermined after the Celtics gave that prized spot to Tatum.
The claim quickly went viral. However, Simmons quickly shut down the rumor that he was the primary source of the story.

The narrative traces its roots to the July 16 broadcast of ESPN’s “NBA Today,” when NBA insider Marc Spears discussed the factors behind Boston’s decision to move its Finals MVP, claiming that team management had always prioritized Tatum over Brown.
“I hear they were cool,” Spears said. “They were definitely cool. But if you look at what the Celtics have been doing for the last couple of years, they have favored Jayson over Jaylen. And Jayson wasn’t asking for this. This is something that they just did.
“And what I mean by that is Jayson had some friends that were hired by the team, Jaylen doesn’t. When Jayson was hurt, Jaylen was in the starting five, and they announced him last, and as soon as Jayson came back, that changed,” added Spears.
While fans and analysts continue to examine every angle of the duo’s decade-long run, Simmons made it clear he was merely relaying national reporting, not uncovering original insider gossip.
