It’s been 10 years since the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, came back from down 3-1 to defeat the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. To celebrate this anniversary, the group went on a trip on the other side of the world.
James took to his new YouTube channel to showcase what all went down on this trip and also let fans know how much the reunion meant to him.
LeBron James Gets Emotional During 10-Year Anniversary Trip with Former Cavs Teammates
Members of the 2016 Cavaliers roster took a trip to Castle Stuart Golf Links at Cabot Highlands in Scotland. James was joined by Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, Richard Jefferson, Tristan Thompson, Channing Frye, and more all of whom are avid golfers with varying degrees of prowess in the sport.
During the hour-and-a-half-long YouTube video, James spoke about how much he valued sharing this time with his former teammates.
“To be able to reunite with these guys and do a trip like this, it means everything to me. I know it means everything to the guys. We just shared so many moments, highs and lows, everything in between. And the way we were able to win that championship in 2016 under the circumstances that we were under, it means a lot.”
If there is one group of guys from the 21st century who are perhaps soul-tied after a championship run, it’s the 2016 Cavaliers. To go down 3-1 and come back against a roster of that magnitude led by the league’s first and only unanimous MVP requires a bond that goes beyond NBA hardwood.
The reunion trip was quite sentimental for the rest of the guys. It also makes sense that this was a golfing trip, given that James has become a big fan of the sport over the past few years.
Smith has also been hitting the links for several years now, even playing at the collegiate level at North Carolina A&T State University. While he’s yet to golf professionally, he has suited up for some Pro-AM events.
He would go on to also showcase his love for this Cavs group toward the end of the video, saying, “These dudes represent everything that I love and everything that I aspire to be.”
James had a brilliant time getting away from all the NBA noise. The trip also came at a perfect time, as it was before he decided to join the Philadelphia 76ers, so a getaway with his closest friends halfway across the world was perhaps just what he needed to recharge before this new chapter in his life.
