Where Will Giannis Antetokounmpo Land? 4 Trade Destinations for Bucks Superstar Amid Latest Rumors

Speculation is heating up about a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade prior to the deadline. Here are four teams that could make good trade partners.

After years of rumors, Giannis Antetokounmpo may finally be ready for a change of scenery. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Wednesday that Antetokounmpo is “ready for a new home” either prior to the trade deadline or this offseason, and the Milwaukee Bucks are willing to listen to aggressive offers for the superstar.

With that in mind, which teams make the most sense as a landing spot for Antetokounmpo? Let’s break down four realistic landing spots for the superstar.

New York Knicks

This is the obvious one. The New York Knicks have previously been linked to “The Greek Freak” as his preferred trade destination. Reports surfaced that New York and Milwaukee discussed a trade this past offseason, but nothing ever materialized. That doesn’t mean the two sides won’t eventually reach a deal.

After Charania’s report, Knicks insider Ian Begley quickly noted that New York is still aggressively pursuing Antetokounmpo and making offers.

The Knicks are contenders, but Antetokounmpo is the kind of player who could make them favorites in the Eastern Conference. They already have a playoff-tested core that came within two wins of the Finals. They also reinforced their bench with veterans to solidify the rotation.

The Eastern Conference is wide open this year, and New York is among the top teams. Adding a two-time MVP would give the Knicks a ceiling no other team in the East can match.

A framework built around Karl-Anthony Towns and a high-level wing such as Mikal Bridges or O.G. Anunoby, plus future draft capital, could keep Milwaukee competitive. It could also finally deliver the marquee superstar Madison Square Garden has been waiting for.

San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs represent a dream scenario for Antetokounmpo if ring-chasing is priority No. 1.

A deal would instantly form the league’s most terrifying frontcourt alongside Victor Wembanyama.

At 21, Wembanyama is a budding MVP and Defensive Player of the Year-caliber force. His versatility and rim protection would pair perfectly with Antetokounmpo’s switchability, creating elite defense as De’Aaron Fox orchestrates the offense.

This duo could dominate for years, as Antetokounmpo’s prime overlaps with Wembanyama’s ascent. San Antonio sat out other superstar pursuits to potentially position itself for this move.

On paper, the Spurs hold one of the league’s strongest trade packages, combining young lottery talent like Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle with a treasure trove of first-round picks through 2031. They’d likely part with Devin Vassell or Keldon Johnson to match salaries, giving Milwaukee assets to rebuild without a total collapse.

It’s a win-now gamble that could vault the Spurs into Western Conference Finals contention immediately.

Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets’ front office pulled off a blockbuster trade this past offseason, acquiring 15-time All-Star and former MVP Kevin Durant. The move signaled the team’s desire to win now after posting a 52-30 record last season. If Houston wants to stay aggressive, it may have the pieces to make a play for another superstar in Antetokounmpo.

The Rockets are currently the fourth-best team in the Western Conference, so this is by no means a suggestion for them to blow things up. However, inserting Antetokounmpo into the fold could take this squad to another level.

Pairing him with Durant would give Houston two elite offensive engines who can bend defenses in different ways. Defensively, Antetokounmpo would raise the group’s ceiling from dangerous to terrifying, immediately shoring up the back line.

Houston also has plenty of draft capital and young talent, so they may be able to swing a deal without losing core pieces like Amen Thompson and Alperen Sengun. Jabari Smith Jr., Reed Sheppard, and Tari Eason are guys who could be appealing to the Bucks.

Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have been one of the biggest surprises in the NBA so far this season, as they are in the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. This is a team with a young, exciting core, featuring Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley.

Toronto has already proven it can compete with some of the best in the league. However, this squad lacks a true superstar, and Antetokounmpo would undoubtedly provide that. With the East wide open, the Raptors should strongly consider a move for Giannis.

Toronto has been aggressive in trade talks, with many reports linking them to Domantas Sabonis and (at one point) Anthony Davis, so it certainly seems the Raptors are going star-hunting.

Toronto would have to give up some young players for the Bucks to consider an offer. A package built around Barrett and future first-round picks would be a good start. The Raptors also have recent first-rounders in Collin Murray-Boyles, Gradey Dick, and Ja’Kobe Walter, who could give the Bucks promising young talent in return for the face of the franchise.

Adding a proven winner like Antetokounmpo to a team of young players hungry for the playoffs could be a perfect match.
