Some moments in NBA history are so legendary that generations of players want to recreate them. That’s what Heat center Bam Adebayo did after rewriting record books against the Washington Wizards. The Heat star erupted for 83 points in Miami’s 150–129 win over the Wizards.
After his historic scoring night on Tuesday, Adebayo paid tribute to one of the most legendary images the sport has ever produced, recreating the famous pose of Wilt Chamberlain.

On March 2, 1962, Chamberlain produced the most legendary scoring performance in basketball history.
Playing for the Philadelphia Warriors against the New York Knicks at Hershey Sports Arena in Pennsylvania, Chamberlain scored an astonishing 100 points in a single game. Afterward, he posed in the locker room holding a plain white sheet of paper with the number “100” written across it.
That simple photograph, no graphics, no digital scoreboard, just a handwritten number, became one of the most recognizable images in sports history. The picture has since come to symbolize something almost mythical in the NBA — a performance so extraordinary it borders on the unbelievable.
Over the years, several NBA stars have recreated Chamberlain’s pose after historic scoring performances. Players like LeBron James, Luka DonÄŤić, and Joel Embiid have all paid homage to the moment with their own versions of the famous photo.
But few have come as close to Chamberlain’s legendary scoring mark as Adebayo did Tuesday night. The Heat center finished with 83 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals, producing the second-highest single-game scoring total in NBA history.
He surpassed Kobe Bryant’s 81-point record and now sits next to Chamberlain in most points made in a game.
Before the Wizards’ game, Adebayo’s career high had been just 41 points, making the explosion even more remarkable. His scoring outburst electrified the NBA world throughout the night. The Heat star poured in 31 points in the first quarter alone, setting a franchise record for points in a single period.

As the points kept piling up, the game turned into a historic chase, one that eventually ended with Adebayo securing his place in NBA lore. While Chamberlain’s 100-point masterpiece remains untouched, Adebayo’s tribute photo served as a reminder of just how rare such nights truly are.
Some records feel almost untouchable. But every once in a while, a player delivers a performance so extraordinary that it echoes the legends who came before. On Tuesday night in Miami, Adebayo came closer than almost anyone ever has.
