NBA World Rips Heat for Controversial Fouls, Challenge To Help Bam Adebayo Achieve Historic 83-Point Game: ‘Nasty Work’

Bam Adebayo scores 83 as the Miami Heat beat the Washington Wizards, but fouls spark NBA World backlash.

The Miami Heat hosted the Washington Wizards at the Kaseya Center on Tuesday night, securing a 150–129 victory in a game that quickly turned into a historic night for Miami star Bam Adebayo.

NBA World Reacts to Controversial Foul Sequences Amid Bam Adebayo’s Historic 83-Point Performance

Adebayo delivered a performance for the ages, scoring 83 points, the second-highest single-game total in NBA history. That places him in rare company alongside Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant. Chamberlain famously holds the record with 100 points in 1962, while Bryant scored 81 points in 2006.

Adebayo finished the night 20-of-43 from the field and 36-of-43 from the free-throw line, carrying the Heat’s offense throughout the contest. As he chased history, the closing minutes turned chaotic and drew heavy reactions online.

Several sequences appeared designed either to help or prevent Adebayo’s record chase, sparking debate across social media.

Journalist Damichael Cole (@DamichaelC) wrote: “Washington intentionally fouling other Heat players so Bam won’t get another shot attempt is pretty hilarious and lame at the same time 😂.”

Meanwhile, Clippers reporter Tomer Azarly (@TomerAzarly) posted: “The end of this Wizards-Heat game is just hilarious lmaooo.”

Denver Nuggets reporter, Ryan Blackburn (@NBABlackburn), added: “Okay man Miami is doing some crazy stuff to get this record now lol.”

Lakers Nation’s managing editor Daniel Starkand (@DStarkand) criticized Heat’s strategy, writing,

“Alright the Heat fouling just so they can get the ball back is nasty work.”

The unusual sequences began when Adebayo reached 81 points. The Wizards responded by aggressively trapping him near midcourt, forcing the ball out of his hands. Teammate Dru Smith received the pass and was immediately fouled, sending him to the free-throw line.

Smith appeared to intentionally miss his second free throw in hopes of creating another possession for the Heat, but the Wizards secured the rebound. The Heat then fouled Bilal Coulibaly to regain possession, adding to the chaotic finish.

Earlier in the fourth quarter, with Adebayo sitting on 77 points, Heat coach even used a coach’s challenge on a charging call drawn by Washington’s Jaden Hardy, though the challenge was ultimately unsuccessful.

Despite the late-game controversy, Adebayo’s dominance was undeniable. The Miami center exploded for 31 points in the first quarter alone, setting a new franchise record for points scored in a single quarter. With the win, the Heat improved to 37–29 and are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference as they continue their push toward the playoffs.
