Bam Adebayo Holds Record for Second Most Points in NBA History

Heading into Tuesday’s game, the Heat were already expected to beat the Wizards. Looking at the Eastern Conference’s standings, Miami was already on a five-game winning streak prior to facing Washington. It’s also worth noting their disparity in the standings, with the Heat in sixth place while the Wizards are in 14th.

However, what nobody anticipated was the historic night Adebayo put up.

The first quarter already looked promising when the Heat star exploded for a 31-point opener. He then added 12 more points in the second quarter, bringing his total to 43 points in the first half alone. At that point, Adebayo set the modern record for having the second-highest scoring performance in the 2020s, with Karl-Anthony Towns holding the record at 44 points set in 2024.

However, Adebayo was far from finished when he added 19 more points in the third quarter, bringing his total to 62 points. Ultimately, the Heat star shattered Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game record and claimed the spot for the second-highest scoring performance in a single NBA game, scoring 83 points.

During a postgame interview with Adebayo, he expressed his thoughts on now having his name between Chamberlain and Bryant for the most points scored in an NBA game.

“I wish I could relive it twice,” Adebayo said after scoring 83 points. “I appreciate (the Heat), man. They’re like my second family. Like I said, I couldn’t do it without them. Somebody had to pass me the ball. I appreciate (coach Erik Spoelstra) for drawing up plays for me, and I got it going tonight.”

“To be able to do it at home, that makes it even more sweeter,” Adebayo continued. “Obviously, it’s a top three performances of all time.”

Not only did Adebayo eclipse Bryant in the record books, but he also now holds the record for the most points scored by a Heat player in a single game. The record was previously held by LeBron James, who scored 61 points in 2014 against the Charlotte Bobcats.

While Adebayo is yet to win a championship in his career, his performance on Tuesday now solidifies him as one of the best players to ever suit up for the Heat.
