Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett has become a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks in the last few weeks. While the Browns’ offense has struggled at times this season, the same cannot be said about their defense, which continues to wreak havoc.
This trend continued into Week 12, with Garrett making Browns history after sacking Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith, who ranks 25th in PFSN’s Quarterback Impact metric.
Myles Garrett Ties His Own Browns Sack Record
After sacking Smith in the final moments of the second quarter, Garrett, who ranks No. 1 in PFSN’s EDGE Impact metric, recorded his 16th sack of the season, tying his franchise record. With a handful of games still left in the season, the Browns’ star has an opportunity to extend that mark.

Garrett has been on a tear, recording a sack in five straight games, and heading into the matchup against the Raiders, the 29-year-old had totaled 11 sacks during that stretch, per Pro Football Reference.
He first set the benchmark in 2021 and matched it in 2022. Entering this game, Garrett led the NFL with 15 sacks. The league record stands at 22.5 sacks, held by Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan in 2001 and T.J. Watt in 2021.
The Browns’ four-time All-Pro didn’t just tie his own record with that sack. He also joined J.J. Watt and Reggie White as only the third player in NFL history with three seasons of at least 16 sacks, per the Akron Beacon Journal.
Over the first nine years of his career, Garrett has already totaled 118.5 sacks, the second most in NFL history for that span, behind White’s 137.
The Browns Have Offensive Help
Moreover, it appears that the Browns’ defense might be getting help from the offense to secure a win. In the first quarter, the Cleveland offense, led by Shedeur Sanders in his first NFL start, recorded 14 points.
As a result, if this is the trend heading into the 2025 NFL season, it will be a positive sign that this excellent defense finally has support. Before the game against Las Vegas, Sanders spoke with CBS Sports and expressed his confidence.
“It feels good, but [we’re] cool, calm, [and] collective like this ain’t nothing to us, Sanders said pregame.
Furthermore, Sanders sent a message to Browns fans heading into his first NFL start, as he looks to be the franchise quarterback the team has starved for.
“I’m who [the Browns fans] have been looking for,” Sanders said.
