‘Will She Talk?’ — NFL Insider Wonders If Patriots HC Mike Vrabel Will Try to Silence Dianna Russini With an NDA

Dianna Russini remains silent, but her eventual response could spark fresh trouble for Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots.

The Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini saga has been one of the biggest stories in football this spring. But the person at the center of it all still hasn’t spoken. And that silence is starting to feel very intentional.

Mike Florio thinks the next major development in this story hinges entirely on one question: Will Russini tell her side of things?

Dianna Russini’s Side of the Story Could Create New Problems for Mike Vrabel and the Patriots

“Depending on what she says, and when she says it, her story could create a new set of issues for Vrabel and the Patriots,” Florio wrote on NBC Sports.

Russini resigned from The Athletic on April 14. Since then, she’s been quiet, and her only public words came through a statement to Page Six, denying any inappropriate relationship with Vrabel.

That statement, and her resignation letter, are basically all she’s given the public. Meanwhile, more photos have surfaced. Page Six published pictures from a 2020 meetup at a New York City bar. TMZ followed with shots from a Mississippi casino in 2024. Neither Vrabel nor Russini has directly addressed those images.

Vrabel did speak at an April 23 press conference, though. He didn’t name Russini, but his tone was very different from his initial “laughable” dismissal of the Sedona photos.

He took accountability, announced he’d seek counseling, and skipped the third day of the NFL Draft to be with his family.

That’s a significant shift. So why is Russini still silent?

Jon “Stugotz” Weiner, a radio host who apparently knows more than he’s letting on, offered a clue. He said Russini will share her story eventually, but only on her own terms.

“This is her story to share when she feels like sharing it,” Weiner said on his show. “It is not my obligation to talk to Dianna Russini privately on the phone and then share it with a radio audience that she doesn’t want me to share it with, because it’s not my story to tell. It’s her story to tell on her timeline.”

So Russini has a story, but she’s just not ready to tell it. Florio points out that the timing of any potential statement matters enormously. “The timing will be critical. Will she talk not long before training camp opens? In the days preceding Week 1?” he wrote.

The closer to Week 1, the more disruptive it becomes for New England.

But there’s another possibility Florio floated that can’t be ignored. A settlement. An NDA. Money in exchange for silence. “Some sort of settlement agreement, with an NDA, would not be unprecedented in a situation like this,” he noted.

It’s a real scenario, as Russini has left a high-profile job. She’s presumably fielding calls from multiple outlets. If someone with deep pockets wanted to keep her quiet, this is exactly the moment to do it.

The Patriots have backed Vrabel publicly, and the NFL said it’s not investigating because the situation doesn’t fall under the personal conduct policy. So there’s no external pressure forcing anything into the open.

Right now, this is entirely Russini’s call. Florio frames it simply: the first question is whether she talks. The second is when. The third, and most important, is what she actually says.

Those three questions are hanging over Foxborough heading into the summer. And until Russini decides to answer them, the story isn’t going anywhere.
