Mike Vrabel is entering his second season as the New England Patriots’ head coach, and it’s already been an eventful run. His first year resulted in a Super Bowl appearance, but it’s been overshadowed this offseason by the Dianna Russini scandal.
On Wednesday, Vrabel addressed reporters once again, and he was asked about how he’s balancing football and family considering the impact of the allegations on his personal life.
What Did Mike Vrabel Say About His Family Life Amid Dianna Russini Scandal?
Vrabel and Russini are both married and have kids with their spouses. This all started after photos of the pair at an Arizona resort were published, and in the weeks that followed, other photos and videos emerged that showed Vrabel and Russini kissing at a New York bar in 2020 and renting a boat together in 2021.
Prior to the Patriots’ OTAs, Vrabel addressed the media and he was unsurprisingly asked about the situation. Vrabel has been making an effort to balance his family and football; for example, he stepped away from the Patriots on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft in order to attend counseling with his family. He was asked about his attempts to find this balance.
“Really good,” Vrabel stated bluntly.

The Patriots took a massive step forward in Vrabel’s first year as their head coach, winning the AFC Championship before being defeated by the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl. Recently, the Russini scandal has become a distraction since it has loomed over the organization and caused Vrabel to miss Day 3 of the NFL Draft. At a different point during the press conference, he elaborated on his plan of balancing his responsibilities and family.
“My family is great. I love Jen and I love the boys…” Vrabel said. “But this spring is really focused on the coaching staff and the players … Seeing the coaches in the second year, how smooth the conversations are … We’re trying to enhance the things that we did last year. The unique thing about the players is that there are 44 new players for our spring football, but what you see today is not what you’ll see at training camp.”

The head coach sounds eager to shift the focus back to the football field as his Patriots look to defend their AFC crown and aspire to take it one step further in the 2026 season. He mentioned how many new players were brought in during the offseason to potentially compete for a roster spot, so he has plenty of work to do before training camp.
The Patriots’ biggest change of the offseason may not have happened yet, as the team is rumored to trade for A.J. Brown after June 1. Many reports have indicated that the Philadelphia Eagles will trade him to New England in the coming weeks. Brown and Vrabel have history thanks to their time together with the Tennessee Titans, where the wide receiver ranked in the top five in PFSN’s WR Impact metric twice in three years.
