Micah Parsons Still Waiting on a Birthday Gift From the Dallas Cowboys

“Happy birthday to my brother, our PPL, the lion,” Shatara wrote. “Thank you for all you do for the family. You are everything God said you would be. Keep walking in your purpose. I love you.”

Parsons has two siblings — a brother, Terrence, and a sister, Shatara. The family hasn’t been shy about speaking out, either. Terrence drew attention ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft for criticizing former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers, who was linked to the Cowboys at the time.

Dallas and Parsons have been working toward a massive contract extension all offseason, though updates have come in sporadically. CBS Sports writer Tyler Sullivan broke down what a potential deal might look like — and how it could reset the market.

“It’s a matter of when rather than if the Cowboys will hand Parsons a contract extension. When they do, it’ll in all likelihood make the Dallas pass rusher the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Since coming into the league, Parsons has registered at least 12 sacks in all four of his seasons.

“He’s also been named an All-Pro in three of his four seasons and to the Pro Bowl every year. Parsons should eye a contract that exceeds Ja’Marr Chase’s $40.25 million in AAV.”

Parsons played 13 games last season and posted 43 total tackles (30 solo), 12.0 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 23 quarterback hits, a pass deflection, and two forced fumbles. He earned another Pro Bowl nod but, for the first time in his career, missed out on All-Pro honors and didn’t finish in the top three for Defensive Player of the Year.

According to Over The Cap, the Cowboys have $31.89 million in cap space heading into 2025. At just 26 years old, Parsons still has room to grow — and could be the anchor of a dominant Dallas defense in one of the NFL’s toughest divisions. All eyes are now on how Jerry Jones handles the negotiations.
