The contract standoff between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys just reached a breaking point. After months of silence, the superstar pass rusher dropped a social media bombshell that changes everything about his future in Dallas.
What started as negotiations has turned into something much more personal, and now one of the NFL’s most dominant defenders wants out.
Why Does EDGE Micah Parsons Want Out of Dallas?
With a quiet summer behind him, the 2021 first-round pick finally gave his input regarding the contract dispute. The 52.5 career sack man took to X, where he was not shy in describing what comes next.

Parsons says “Thank you” to Dallas in what appears to be a farewell post from the four-year pro. In his lengthy message, the Penn State alumnus details that he gave everything to remain with the Cowboys.
“Yes, I wanted to be here,” said Parsons. “I did everything that I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this America’s team once again.”
The 26-year-old superstar continued, “The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here.”
Following that shocking claim, Parsons elaborated on the key issues pushing him out of Dallas. The frustration goes beyond money, touching on respect and communication.
“I no longer want to be held to closed-door negotiations without my agent present,” said Parsons.
“I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans, and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me. I had purposefully stayed quiet in hopes of getting something done. But since there is some confusion out there, let me clear some things up.”
What Went Wrong Between Parsons and Cowboys Management?
The 6’3″ edge rusher’s message details the exact timeline of his attempts to secure a deal with Dallas. Unfortunately, it seems the feeling wasn’t reciprocated, and now Parsons has requested a trade.
“I had my agent reach out to the Cowboys last offseason after my third season in hopes of getting a deal done early,” Parsons said. “Unfortunately, the team did not want to start any negotiations at that point. I was okay with that, didn’t complain, and focused on the 2024 season.”
After the 2024-25 campaign ended, Parsons and his agent tried once more. However, with other star pass rushers awaiting deals, his agent suggested waiting until some of those contracts were finalized.
“After the season, I told my agent once again to let the team know we were open to negotiate when they met at the combine,” said Parsons. “My agent informed me I should wait for other deals to get done because the price would only go up, but I didn’t care and wanted to secure myself as a Cowboy long-term.”
These talks occurred before the deals inked by T.J. Watt, Myles Garrett, and Maxx Crosby. Regardless of other players and their contracts, Parsons remained determined to stay a Cowboy.

“This was before any of the other pass rushers got deals this offseason,” said Parsons. “I knew I would be leaving money on the table, but again, I was okay with that. Again, radio silence as far as my extension.”
The situation took another turn when Parsons met directly with owner Jerry Jones. What was supposed to be a leadership discussion became an impromptu contract conversation.
“In March, I met with Mr. Jones to talk about leadership,” said Parsons. “Somehow, the conversation turned to him talking contract with me. Yes, I engaged in a back and forth, in regards to what I wanted from my contract, but at no point did I believe this was supposed to be a formal negotiation, and I informed Mr. Jones afterward [that] my agent would reach out…”
Initially, Parsons thought things were heading in the right direction. That optimism wouldn’t last long. Shortly after this conversation with Jones, Parsons’ agent met with Cowboys management to hopefully finalize a deal. That’s when things went south.
“But when my agent reached out to Adam [Prasifka], he was told the deal was pretty much already done,” said Parsons. “My agent, of course, told him that wasn’t the case and also reached out to Stephen Jones. Again, the team decided to go silent.”
How Did Contract Talks Completely Break Down?
After that discussion, Parsons and his agent hit rock bottom and decided they would wait for Dallas to make the next move. However, that call never came.
“At that point, we decided we would let the team reach out to us whenever they decided they wanted to talk,” said Parsons. “Yet still not a call, email, or text to my agent about starting a negotiation. Up to today [Friday], the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract.”
With Watt, Garrett, and Crosby signing deals carrying massive monetary value, perhaps that’s what Dallas is unable to accept? Parsons denies that, saying money has never been the issue for him and his agent.

“Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years, or anything else,” said Parsons. “Still I stayed quiet, but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.”
The 26-year-old defender leaves no room for interpretation, announcing his formal trade request himself. Despite his attendance at training camp, Parsons has not participated while these negotiations have dragged on.
“My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally,” said Parsons.
With Friday afternoon’s bombshell revelation, the question now becomes where one of the league’s most promising young talents will land next. The Cowboys face losing a cornerstone defender who has recorded 52.5 sacks in just four seasons, all because of a breakdown in communication and respect that went far beyond dollars and cents.
