The Texas Longhorns are entering a new era. Since taking over at the University of Texas three months ago, Sean Miller has moved quickly to reshape the roster in the wake of Rodney Terry’s departure.
They are also moving forward without Tre Johnson, their top talent last season, who is expected to be a top-10 pick in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft.
His departure is part of a broader shift. Of the eight players eligible to return from last season, half have chosen to leave by declaring for the NBA or transferring to other programs, as Miller begins building the team in his vision.
Miller Rebuilds Roster After Johnson’s NBA Draft Declaration
With their top scorer, Tre Johnson, heading to the NBA after averaging 19.9 points per game and earning SEC Freshman of the Year honors, the Longhorns are turning the page and building a new identity under Miller.
As Texas prepares for the 2025-26 season, only four players are expected back from last year’s roster: Jordan Pope, Tramon Mark, Chendall Weaver, and Nic Codie. The rest of the roster is being rebuilt from the ground up.

Miller has wasted no time filling the gaps. In addition to the returning group, he has brought in a wave of transfers to reshape the roster. The Longhorns have added Florida Atlantic University center Matas Vokietaitis, Xavier University forwards Lassina Traore and Dailyn Swain, St. John’s University guard Simeon Wilcher, and Purdue University forward Camden Heide.
The Longhorns are not just reloading through the transfer portal. They are investing in the future as well. Freshman forward John Clark joins the program this season, while Texas also looked overseas to land 7-foot British center Lewis Obiorah.

But Miller’s recruiting push is far from over. Texas is actively hosting top talent as it looks to build out its 2026 class. Five-star forward Cameron Williams is scheduled for an official visit on September 5.
The program recently welcomed four-star guard Sammy Jackson to campus ahead of his upcoming commitment announcement on June 25. Just a few days later, Texas will host another key target. Four-star forward Bryson Howard, the son of former NBA first-round pick and Dallas Mavericks All-Star Josh Howard, is set to visit on June 30.
The Longhorns have yet to secure a commitment in the 2026 class.
