Indiana Beats Purdue, Lands 4-Star Trevor Manhertz in 24-Hour Surge

Indiana has reasons to celebrate after knocking off No. 12 Purdue, followed by a big-time recruit joining the Hoosiers.

For the past 24 hours, the Indiana Hoosiers’ basketball program has been on a heater. On Tuesday night, Indiana went in and pulled off a shocking 72-67 Big Ten Conference victory over the No. 12-ranked Purdue Boilermakers.

Then, on Wednesday, Indiana basketball coach Darian DeVries, who’s in his first season leading the Hoosiers, landed a commitment from a big-time recruit. All in all, things are coming up roses in Bloomington, Ind., right now.

Indiana Celebrates Victories On, Off the Court

Four-star forward Trevor Manhertz committed to Indiana on Wednesday. He posted his announcement on X and said that he’s going to reclassify so that he can join the program next season. The timing around all of this isn’t a coincidence — it’s momentum.

“After thoughtful consideration, and with the support of my family, I would like to announce that I will be re-classifying into 2026 and committing to Indiana University…Go Hoosiers!!!” Manhertz’s post read.

Manhertz committed less than 24 hours after Indiana’s upset win over Purdue. This marks the third top-75 commitment in DeVries’s first 10 months as head coach at Indiana.

Manhertz has spoken about “the aura around Indiana basketball,” which directly points to something intangible that DeVries is building.

It should be noted that the Duke Blue Devils were Manhertz’s childhood dream school, but the Blue Devils never officially offered. Indiana went out and closed the deal. Putting Manhertz’s announcement into context, the Hoosiers will lose six seniors this year, making this recruiting class critical for DeVries.

In the victory over Purdue at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Lamar Wilkerson scored 19 points, and Nick Dorn added 18 for the Hoosiers. Conor Enright added five key points in the final 71 seconds of the game. Enright finished with just 8 points, but those late second-half points proved valuable down the stretch.

Indiana is now 14-7 overall and 5-5 in Big Ten play. This win over Purdue marked DeVries’ biggest victory in his inaugural season with the Hoosiers.

With Manhertz joining the Indiana program and the Hoosiers coming off a big-time conference victory over a nationally ranked opponent, DeVries and Indiana now face a daunting question.

Can Indiana carry this momentum into Saturday’s game at UCLA and beyond? DeVries has proven he can win games and win recruits. The rebuild just accelerated.
