UCLA enters the 2026 NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed with a 23-11 record, and the Bruins received positive news regarding their star point guard ahead of Friday’s matchup against UCF.
What Is Donovan Dent’s Status for the NCAA Tournament?
Senior guard Donovan Dent is expected to play against the UCF Knights after suffering a calf injury during the Big Ten Tournament. California Post Sports’ Ben Bolch shared an update Monday on X, relaying the Bruins guard’s own words about his recovery following the Purdue injury scare on Saturday.
“Donovan Dent said he’s feeling 100%,” Bolch reported.

The news immediately strengthened UCLA’s NCAA Tournament outlook. Dent serves as the Bruins’ primary playmaker and has consistently driven the team’s tempo and ball movement throughout the season. His availability is one of the most important factors in determining how far UCLA can advance in March Madness.
MARCH MADNESS: Fill In Your Bracket Now!
Dent suffered a calf strain during the closing minutes of the first half in UCLA’s Big Ten Tournament semifinal against Purdue at the United Center in Chicago. He reached for his lower right leg and exited the game before heading to the locker room. Dent did not return, and the Bruins ultimately fell to the Boilermakers without their primary playmaker on the floor.
The timing of the injury was particularly unfortunate given the incredible stretch of basketball Dent had been playing. In UCLA’s Big Ten Tournament opener against Rutgers, Dent recorded 12 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds to become the first player in conference tournament history to post a triple-double. He followed that up with 23 points and 12 assists in an upset win over Michigan State in the quarterfinals.
UCLA enters March Madness after compiling a dominant 17-1 record at Pauley Pavilion during the regular season. The Bruins collected wins over several top-10 opponents, including Purdue, Illinois, and Nebraska. Those victories demonstrated that this team is capable of competing with anyone when healthy and playing at its best.
The No. 7-seeded Bruins will face the No. 10-seeded UCF Knights in a first-round matchup on Friday at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. The game will tip off at 7:25 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on TBS. A win would set up a potential second-round clash against No. 2 seed UConn on Sunday.
With Dent feeling fully healthy and Bilodeau expected to return, UCLA has a realistic chance of making a deep tournament run. The Bruins have shown throughout the season that they can beat elite competition when their top players are available and performing at a high level.
