Auburn officially confirmed Pearl’s retirement about an hour later, with Pearl releasing a video message from his office captioned: “Dear Auburn Family, I truly love you.”
The 65-year-old coach will step down from his head coaching role but remain with the university as special assistant to the athletics director, serving as an ambassador.
