Vikings GM Wanted To Keep Max Brosmer a ‘Secret’ Before QB’s 2026 NFL Draft Outcome

Max Brosmer is no longer the Vikings' secret quarterback as he gets set to make his NFL debut in Week 13 against the Seahawks.

Max Brosmer is set to make the first start of his NFL career when the Minnesota Vikings take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13 of the 2025 season. He is an undrafted rookie this year, but apparently, the franchise has had its sights set on him for a while now. Adam Schefter revealed their “secret” in a recent report ahead of his debut.

Vikings Reveal “Secret” Confidence in Max Brosmer

J.J. McCarthy has been serving as the starting quarterback for the Vikings this year, but he is unavailable in Week 13 due to a concussion. This sets up Brosmer to make his first start against the Seahawks, and he will do so against Sam Darnold, the Vikings’ starter from last year.

The rookie went undrafted this year, making him a relative unknown to most around the NFL, but apparently not to Minnesota. Schefter recently reported that their head coach and general manager have secretly had their eye on him for years, suggesting plenty of confidence ahead of his debut.

“The Vikings now will turn to Brosmer, whom they have eyed since last year. He first caught the eye of Vikings officials at the University of Minnesota’s pro day in March 2024, right after he transferred into the program from the University of New Hampshire. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah both attended that day and were impressed.”

“A few weeks later at the Gophers’ 2025 pro day, the Vikings GM was overheard saying that he ‘kind of wish[ed]’ he hadn’t lobbied for Brosmer to the Combine ‘because then he’d really be our secret,’ ” reported Schefter.

McCarthy has severely struggled this year, currently ranking 38th of 40 qualified quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings. For comparison, Darnold ranks sixth, creating a legitimate debate as to whether the Vikings made the right call about their starter for this season.

Darnold will likely have additional motivation to perform in this contest against his former team, though he won’t get to take on the quarterback that directly replaced him. He will instead face off with their new rookie, who, while undrafted, is apparently their “secret” weapon.

He spent one year as a starter for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in college football, totaling 18 touchdowns across 13 games. These numbers don’t exactly jump off the page, but apparently, the Vikings see something special in him. He will have his chance to prove them right this week against one of the best defenses in the league.
