After another incredible season with the Los Angeles Rams, quarterback Matthew Stafford was awarded the 2025 NFL MVP for the impressive campaign in his 17th season. As he accepted his award with his four daughters on the stage, he made a statement that gave Rams fans hope for the 2026 season.
Rams QB Matthew Stafford Makes Statement on Future in NFL MVP Speech
Stafford spent the first twelve seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions, the franchise that drafted him with the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. However, in 2020, the Rams made the move to trade for Stafford as head coach Sean McVay looked for a signal-caller to run his offense. While Los Angeles won a Super Bowl in its first season in 2021, it has struggled to return to the big game over the past three seasons.
While the 2025 offseason brought a lot of uncertainty with Stafford being a free agent, he and the Rams agreed to a two-year, $84 million deal with $40 million guaranteed for the 2026 season. The Rams reached the NFC Championship game but came up short against the Seattle Seahawks, losing 31-27.
With Stafford turning 38 on Feb. 7, his future was up in the air yet again for the 2026 season. However, with his daughters by his side, he put a question to rest, stating, “can’t wait for you to cheer me on next year when we’re out there kicking a**. So I’ll see you guys next year,” confirming his return to Los Angeles next season.

While he let the NFL world know he was returning for the 2026 season, he wished he could not attend the 2027 NFL Honors, hoping the Rams would be preparing for Super Bowl 61 after falling one game short of the Lombardi Trophy in the 2026 NFL Playoffs.
While the Rams came up short in the end, Stafford had an incredible season under center. While he impressed in his first season in 2021, Stafford’s stats took a hit over the next three years. However, he completed 388 of 597 pass attempts for 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
The Rams ranked as the best offensive unit in PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric, with an impact score of 92.3. While he faded over the final few weeks, Stafford still came in as a top-ten signal-caller, earning a PFSN QB Impact impact score of 84.4, ranking sixth in the NFL.
However, with all of his weapons under contract for the 2026 season, it shouldn’t be too hard for Stafford to make one more run for a second Super Bowl win.
