The season has gone down the drain in rapid-fire fashion for the Arizona Cardinals. After a 2-0 start, the team quickly fell by the wayside, winning just one game in their subsequent nine encounters. Additionally, Kyler Murray was put on the injured reserve list, removing almost any hope for the franchise.
However, with a potential superstar on the roster in the form of Marvin Harrison Jr., the hope was that they could properly develop him as a franchise cornerstone. Facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13, those dreams may have evaporated in a hurry as well.
What Happened to Marvin Harrison Jr.?
With the game hanging in the balance in the fourth quarter, as the Buccaneers led 17-10, Arizona was trying to mount a comeback, as Jacoby Brissett led them down the field. Harrison, who had been in sublime form throughout the evening, tried to get it going.
Returning to the lineup after an emergency appendectomy kept him out the previous two weeks, it seemed like he had found his footing, with six catches and 69 receiving yards on the evening.
However, his exit against Tampa Bay wasn’t related to the surgery. Instead, a heel injury forced him out of the game, with the official Cardinals account announcing his status as “Questionable” to return soon after.
The fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the hope was that Arizona found its WR1 for the foreseeable future. However, Harrison has been solid so far, while other playmakers from his class, such as Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr., and Brock Bowers, have far surpassed him in production and impact.

Currently ranked 46th on PFSN’s WR Impact, he has improved from 62nd last season. However, with others leading near the top of the league, the remainder of the 2025 season, especially with the playoffs seemingly out of reach, could serve as an opportunity to develop him into that superstar talent.
Fantasy Impact of Harrison’s Injury
Harrison had been in and out of the game, clearly hampered by the issue. He was still able to put up a solid fantasy day before exiting, reestablishing himself as the Cardinals’ WR1.
We’ve seen what this passing attack looks like without him. Michael Wilson looked like the best wide receiver on the planet for two weeks. If Harrison has to miss more time, Wilson would be fully back on the menu as a weekly WR2. Trey McBride would also see an increase in targets.
