Catalina Mancera, the girlfriend of the late Marshawn Kneeland, has welcomed the couple’s first child seven months after the Dallas Cowboys defensive end’s tragic death.
Catalina Mancera’s Emotional Tribute to Marshawn Kneeland in Baby’s First Photos
On Monday, Mancera shared the news on Instagram. Their son, Makhai, was born on June 11.
“my favorite gift from you 🤍,” she wrote alongside a series of photos documenting the baby’s arrival.
The post included several touching images, including Mancera holding a photo of Makhai next to his tiny inked footprints and the newborn wrapping his small hand around his mother’s finger. In one image that pays tribute to Kneeland, Makhai is dressed in a onesie featuring a woven image of his father in his Cowboys jersey, a touching way to keep Kneeland present for his son’s first days.

Mancera also posted a video from months earlier, back when she first told Kneeland she was pregnant. The clip captured his reaction in real time, his face breaking into a smile as the news landed.
Kneeland died on Nov. 6, 2025, from what authorities described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police pursuit. He was just 24 years old. The Cowboys confirmed his passing in a statement released the same day.
“It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning,” the team said, calling him “a beloved teammate and member of our organization.”
Just days after his death, the team confirmed that Mancera was pregnant. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer made the announcement during a press conference on Nov. 12.
“We want to make sure she’s taken care of and the baby is taken care of for the rest of their lives,” he told reporters.
The organization went on to establish the Marshawn Kneeland Memorial Fund around that same time, created specifically to support Mancera and her son moving forward. The fund’s website describes its mission as preserving Kneeland’s legacy while extending direct support to his surviving partner and his child.
Mancera addressed her partner’s death on Nov. 10, posting an emotional tribute on Facebook. “My sweet baby, words could never express how broken I feel, you’re my everything. I’ll love you forever my beautiful angel,” she wrote.
The circumstances surrounding Kneeland’s final hours were difficult. He had reportedly led Texas state troopers on a chase north of Dallas. Mancera had tried to intervene, calling police to warn them that he was armed and at serious risk of harming himself.
Police dispatch audio captured an officer relaying her concerns, noting that she indicated Kneeland had a history of mental illness and that, in her words, “He will end it all.”
The same audio referenced a group text Kneeland had reportedly sent to family members that night, one that sounded like a goodbye. Dispatchers said the family was worried for his safety after receiving the message.
Now, seven months later, Mancera is tragically raising their son alone, even as the Cowboys organization continues its commitment to support them both. Makhai’s arrival marks a bittersweet milestone for a family still processing immense loss.
