It has been a rough season for the Baltimore Ravens, who are loitering at 7-7. With the Pittsburgh Steelers continuing to take a commanding lead over them, the hope for a playoff spot is quickly running out for the organization. Unfortunately, their schedule wasn’t making it easier, with a tough game against the New England Patriots in Week 16.
But, with major postseason implications in the balance, the Ravens came out to play some of their best football of the season. Keeping pace with the Patriots at 10 points apiece, it was a back-and-forth first half. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Mark Andrews, as the veteran tight end had a rough period.
What Happened to Mark Andrews?
After a playoff showing against the Buffalo Bills last season that was filled with blunders, including dropping a pass right in his lap that could have taken Baltimore to their second consecutive AFC Championship Game, there was legitimate doubt about Andrews returning to the roster.
However, after an extended offseason, he made his way back into the locker room and has been a revelation this season. Finding his old form once again, he’s tallied 359 receiving yards and five touchdowns on the year, as he’s remained a consistent threat for Lamar Jackson all season long.
Ranking 56th on PFSN’s TE Impact, the game against the Patriots, though, wasn’t one of his finest showings. Not only did he have only 18 receiving yards on a single reception in the first half, but he was also moments away from making an almighty blunder.
Losing track of the time and the ball, he threw an illegal pass that could have been catastrophic for the Ravens, right as time was winding down in the period.

But a roughing the passer penalty on New England thankfully saved him from another major blunder in a prominent spot.

In his eighth season in the league, Andrews has spent the entirety of his career with the Ravens, with one 1,000-yard+ season in his column. As a veteran in the locker room, his leadership, alongside increased production, is critical for the franchise.
With Lamar Jackson out of the game with a back injury that sent him back to the locker room before the first half was over, the Ravens have shifted to Tyler Huntley as their man under center.
While a quality backup, he is nowhere near the caliber of player as the two-time MVP. As a result, the hope for the Baltimore fan base has to be that their skill position players can make a difference and help them get over the hump, at least for this week.
