The Detroit Lions were locked in a thrilling home clash against the New York Giants that featured several highlight-reel touchdowns. Among them was Amon-Ra St. Brown’s second-quarter touchdown catch, which was followed up with a viral celebration that paid tribute to a Giants’ legend.
Amon-Ra St. Brown’s Fitting Celebration of His Touchdown Catch
The Lions and Giants surprisingly had a back-and-forth affair that saw Jared Goff and company barely escape in overtime. Dan Campbell’s team came into this matchup at 6-4 and third place in a loaded NFC North.
Overall, it has been an uneven season for the Lions, considering their preseason expectations, but they picked up a critical 34-27 win to keep pace with the rest of the division. And the stars showed up for the NFC contender, particularly Jahmyr Gibbs and St. Brown.
St. Brown had nine catches for 149 yards and one touchdown Sunday afternoon against a leaky Giants’ secondary. The three-time Pro Bowler caught an eleven-yard touchdown in the early second quarter, and subsequently used that moment to hit Giants legend Victor Cruz’s iconic salsa celebration.

The Detroit Lions Will Have To Scratch and Claw for a Playoff Berth This Season
Even though Campbell’s team is now 7-4, it remains third in the NFC North and is currently not in the postseason. The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears both won at home today, while the current No. 7 seed in the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers, will host the Carolina Panthers tomorrow night.
The Lions needed this win today against a lowly Giants team, as their schedule is loaded with challenging games on the backend. St. Brown and company still have to host the Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers while also visiting the Los Angeles Rams and Bears.
The Lions will need to be significantly more consistent down the stretch to secure their third postseason appearance under Campbell. In particular, the defense has to shore up its deficiencies in the secondary after allowing the Giants’ backup quarterback, Jameis Winston, to throw 118-of-36 for 366 yards.
The Lions are ranked 9th on PFSN’s Offense Impact with a score of 82.9.
As for the offense, this unit’s third-down conversion ranks near the bottom of the league, which pales in comparison to the other NFC contenders. The Lions still have all of their goals ahead of them, but there’s another gear this team needs to hit to return to the NFC Championship.
