The Detroit Lions (6-4) are struggling to win games a bit more than most anticipated.
Most see the Lions’ offense as full of firepower and the defense as respectable across the board, and the analytics support this view. Detroit’s offense ranks No. 9 in PFSN’s metrics, and its defense No. 6. If the Lions come up short of the biggest stage for a third consecutive year with their name comfortably in Super Bowl talks, a major trade could be in play.
Conveniently for Detroit, an AFC North superstar could be on the move.
Lions Predicted To Land Myles Garrett in Trade
Superstar EDGE Myles Garrett’s prime is going to waste with the Cleveland Browns (2-8). To be fair, this was Garrett’s decision, as he inked a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the organization earlier this year.
Still, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay predicts the Lions could trade for Garrett after the season to secure their place in the NFL hierarchy.
“Picking up a player like Garrett would give Detroit the firepower it needs on the defensive side of the ball to become a heavy Super Bowl favorite,” Kay wrote. “It would also allow them to withstand losses to the likes of Aidan Hutchinson, whose absence for much of the 2024 campaign and subsequent playoffs doomed the team’s title hopes.”
Going up against a duo of Garrett and Hutchinson would be a nightmare for opposing offensive lines and quarterbacks. The former has a league-high 15 sacks this season, while the latter has recorded 7.5.
Kay continued, “While the Lions have been built via the draft during the Brad Holmes era, the general manager would be wise to deviate from the plan if it results in a future Hall of Fame edge-rusher donning a Honolulu Blue jersey.”
It’s still possible for the Lions to go all the way this season without the help of Garrett. However, shortcomings for such an extended period of time could motivate the front office to get to work on a monster trade for the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year.

Somebody doesn’t know how to read “If the Lions come up short of the biggest stage for a third consecutive year…” meaning at the end of the season.
It’s past the trade deadline…
