Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is a rising star in the NFL, known for his exceptional athleticism and versatility. His speed, agility, and powerful arm have made him one of the league’s most celebrated players since joining the Ravens in 2018. At just 23 years old, Jackson became the youngest quarterback to win the MVP award, solidifying his status as a future NFL superstar.
Behind Jackson’s success is a strong support system: his mother, Felicia Jones, and his late father, Lamar Jackson Sr. Their unwavering belief in him and their dedication to his development have been instrumental in his career achievements.
Meet Lamar Jackson’s Parents, Lamar Sr. and Felicia Jones
Born on January 7, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida, Lamar Jackson grew up in a large family. His father, Lamar Sr., instilled in him a love for football, and his mother, Felicia Jones, provided unwavering support. The family’s values of hard work and perseverance shaped Lamar’s character and fueled his drive to succeed.
Jones played a particularly crucial role in Lamar’s life, especially after the tragic loss of his father at the age of eight. She not only served as his mother but also took on the role of a father figure, raising him and his siblings on her own. Felicia’s strength and resilience were a constant source of inspiration for Lamar.
The same fateful day in 2005 that his father passed away, his grandmother died. Jackson spoke about how the tragic day affected him during his Heisman Trophy-winning speech: “It hurt me. I wanted to cry real bad, but my mom was the real soldier. She told me, ‘Lamar don’t cry,’ and I’ll remember that for the rest of my life.”
Jones became instrumental in Jackson’s development as an athlete herself. “She used to play basketball. She saw what we were able to do, and she’d go back there and play football with us,” Jackson told ESPN.
He is open about how much admiration he has for his mother. Speaking to The Courier-Journal, Jackson said, “My immediate family is my mom. Everything goes around her. I’m a mama’s boy,” Jackson says.
“She’s the one who keeps me motivated no matter what. She’s driving me. Whenever you need someone to lean back on, or to talk to, she’s there. She motivates me to go out there and compete.”
The two are so close that Jackson spent his first NFL paycheck buying his mom a new home.

Jones is also Jackson’s manager, and she helped him negotiate his five-year, $260 million contract in Baltimore. Jackson had decided to negotiate the contract himself, coming under fire from some for not using a traditional agent. However, Jackson had his mom by his side the whole time, spurred on by her tenacity.
As well as being Jackson’s manager, Jones also helps train kids in the local community. She started doing it when Jackson was a kid, helping him and other children develop their careers. Jones continued the work even when Jackson left for Lousiville to play college football.
