Kyler Murray has spent his entire career with the Arizona Cardinals after being selected as the No.1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. This could potentially change in the near future, as he has been connected to trade rumors with the 2025 deadline approaching.
An NFL insider recently provided an update on the quarterback’s current standing and the realistic possibility of him being traded. The deadline will arrive on Tuesday in Week 10, so his situation is one to keep a close eye on.
Kyler Murray Trade Rumors Ahead of 2025 Deadline
NFL insider Mike Florio recently discussed the potential for the Cardinals to deal Murray ahead of the 2025 trade deadline. He explained that his contract situation, among other factors, makes it unlikely to happen in Week 10, but he may be a candidate for a trade at the end of the season.
“That said, an offseason trade is very realistic,” he said. “If not likely. The current regime did not draft him. The current regime did not sign him to a second contract. The current regime has yet to be able to pick its own quarterback. And with the current regime staring at three years of not making it to the postseason, one way to successful finagle a fourth season will be to lobby ownership for the ability to draft, to sign, or to trade for a new starter.”
“Even if owner Michael Bidwill presses the reset button (again), the next regime may want a fresh start at the most important position on the team. Murray may want a fresh start, too,” explained Florio.
Most head coaches and general managers get the opportunity at some point to pick an available quarterback that they believe they can win with. The current Cardinals leadership inherited Murray, which Florio described as a reason why they may move on from him during the offseason.
The veteran currently ranks 18th for his position on PFSN’s Impact Rankings and has just a 2-3 record as a starter this year. He has also compiled a losing record in each of the past three seasons, as the Cardinals continue to struggle to regain their status as playoff contenders.
He has totaled just six touchdowns this season. He hasn’t played since Week 5 in a disappointing loss to the Tennessee Titans. He is currently dealing with a foot injury, but is soon expected to make his return to the Cardinals’ lineup, unless he is traded before the deadline on Tuesday.
