When Will Kyler Murray Return? Latest Update on Cardinals Star’s Injury

Coach Jonathan Gannon has an update on Kyler Murray's 2025 season after a foot injury, leaving the quarterback's future in Arizona uncertain.

The Arizona Cardinals are having another disastrous season, and you could point to many reasons why. One significant issue for the Cardinals is the lack of talent on their roster. One player they counted on to lead the offense in 2025 was quarterback Kyler Murray. Unfortunately, he has had his season cut short due to a foot injury, and his future in Arizona remains murky.

Cardinals Coach Addresses Kyler Murray’s Availability

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed that Murray will not return this season, as the foot injury he suffered in October has officially ended his campaign.

According to football journalist Cameron Cox, Gannon stated that Murray will be out for the remainder of the season. Also, he declined to comment on Murray’s future in Arizona. Murray was drafted first overall by the Cardinals in 2019 and has since played well as an NFL quarterback.

However, he has not been able to take the Cardinals where they want to go. Murray has a 38-48-1 record as a starter. He has started one playoff game, in which he threw two interceptions, and his team lost.

With Murray done for the season, many people are wondering if this will be his final season in Arizona. He has a few seasons left on his contract, but his deal could pique the interest of a QB-needy team. When healthy, Murray is an above-average starter and should be a significant trade target for many teams.

Cardinals Need to Start Rebuilding

With Murray injured, the Cardinals have turned the offense over to Jacoby Brissett. He has played very well for a backup, with a QB Impact Score of 73.8, which is 22nd in the NFL. However, he is not the franchise quarterback in Arizona.

The Cardinals have to decide if they want to draft a new quarterback this offseason or look for a veteran on the trade market. It is hard to be a competitive NFL team if you do not have a quarterback figured out. The Cardinals have a few solid offensive pieces led by tight end Trey McBride and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., but if they do not have someone who can consistently get them the ball, it will not matter.

If the Cardinals are set on a rebuild, they will use their first-round pick to find their franchise quarterback. That is the only option for a team that does not have a signal-caller they can count on for the foreseeable future.
